The “ harvest moon ” is the full moon which appears nearest the autumnal equinox Her path at that time is
less inclined to the horizon than at any other time of the year in our hemisphere. Hence she rises for several
nights with little retardation. For this reason we enjoy a succession of moonlit evenings, when farmers are able
to work in the harvest field.
