Biographical synthesis
He was born in 1937 , Connecticut , New England state , in the United States . He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he obtained his doctorate.
Career path
In 1967, he joined the Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) in which he collaborated with Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf in the creation of ARPANET , the first packet- switched network .
He was the CEO of Telenet , the first data operator through packet computing that would later develop the “X25” protocol on which the European “EUNet” network will be based .
He is currently president of Caspian Networks , one of the leading centers for applied research in the United States . In 1965 , he connected a TX2 computer in Massachusetts with a Q-32 in California over a low- speed switched telephone line , thus creating the first (albeit small) wide- area computer network ever built. To do this, he used the packet-switching system proposed by his MIT colleague L. Kleinrock.
At the end of 1966 graduated and doctorate from MIT. He moved to DARPA to develop the concept of the computer network and quickly came up with his plan for the ARPANET , publishing it in 1967 .
After working at ARPA, he founded Telenet , the first packet data carrier. He directed it from 1973 to 1980 . Then he worked in several other companies. He is currently President and CEO of Packetcom, an advanced technology company in IP and ATM.
