10 Intestinal Juice Function You Must Know

Intestinal Juice Function. Intestinal Juice can be found in the small intestine , its action culminates the process of degradation of Nutrients that will be absorbed by the intestinal mucosa to subsequently pass into the blood and lymph .

Composition

Some of this juice is secreted by glands in the wall of the intestine located at the base of the intestinal villi. Some of this juice is secreted by glands in the wall of the intestine located at the base of the intestinal villi .

It is composed mainly of water, mucus and enzymes  ; among them: Pancreatic Amylase , Trypsin , Chymotrypsin , Carboxypeptidase , Pancreatic Lipase , Maltase , Sucrase , Lactase , Aminopeptidase . It also has the dumping of pancreatic juice and bile at the level of the duodenum .

Function of the Intestinal Juice.

Intestinal juice is a fluid secreted by the glands in the lining of the small intestine. It plays a crucial role in digestion and nutrient absorption. Here are some of the functions of intestinal juice:

  1. Digestion of carbohydrates: Intestinal juice contains enzymes like maltase, sucrase, and lactase, which break down complex carbohydrates into simple sugars like glucose, fructose, and galactose.
  2. Digestion of proteins: Intestinal juice contains enzymes like peptidase, which break down proteins into amino acids.
  3. Neutralization of stomach acid: Intestinal juice helps to neutralize the acidic chyme (food mixed with stomach acid) that enters the small intestine from the stomach. This is important because the enzymes in the intestinal juice work best in a slightly alkaline environment.
  4. Emulsification of fats: Intestinal juice contains bile salts, which help to emulsify (break down into small droplets) fats so that they can be digested more easily by lipase enzymes.
  5. Absorption of nutrients: Intestinal juice helps to absorb nutrients like glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids into the bloodstream through the walls of the small intestine.

Overall, intestinal juice plays a crucial role in the digestive process and is essential for the absorption of nutrients from food
