HOW TO INSTALL DOWNSPOUT ON CONCRETE WALL

When you want to install downspouts, you should also install a new drainage system to ensure that the new household weather drainage system is consistent and trouble-free. When doing this, make sure you have a partner who can help you. Even if your walls are concrete, this job is not an easy task.

Difficulty level

  • Beginner to intermediate

Step 1-Prepare the roof for gutter and downspout assembly

Make sure to install the correct gutter mounting bracket, because if the gutter is installed correctly, the installation of the drain will be easier. Use appropriate hardware to install the gutter on the bracket. If your gutter slot has a cover, please wait for installation until the downpipe is installed at the exit end of the gutter slot.

Step 2-install downspout

Connect the downpipe elbow to the drain assembly. Make sure to use a sealant such as silicone to ensure that there is no leakage between the downpipe and the sink. Connect the extension to the elbow of the downspout. Ensure that there is enough space to lay the downpipe from the sink to a position about 6 inches above the ground.

Step 3-Connect the downpipe to the building

Determine the number of duct supports to be used. A good rule of thumb is one every 18 inches to 2 feet. After determining the placement of the bracket, drill holes in the concrete on both sides of the downpipe to accommodate the anchors. After drilling, arrange the brackets in a straight line around the drain. Put the masonry anchor into the hole and click. Using a nut driver or socket wrench and socket, tighten the bolt down to expand the anchoring agent in the concrete to hold it firmly in place. Repeat this process for each bracket you need to install.

Step 4-complete assembly

Once you have finished installing the brackets, make sure to apply sealant to every seam and joint of the assembled downspout to allow water to flow through and deposit on the bottom of the assembly. After installing the downpipe, you have a variety of drainage options. You can put a bucket at the bottom of the downpipe to collect rainwater for future watering, or you can install a concrete splash plate to prevent ground water from running off the drain.

Place the bottom elbow on the downpipe to lead the water out of your home, and install the drain cover. Wait about 4 hours to allow the sealant to dry and cure. Test for leaks by using a water pipe to run water through the drain and toward the falling nozzle. If you find a leak, wait for the area to dry, or wipe it with a dry cloth, and then apply more sealant to the leaked area. After the new sealant has cured, test again.
