Humanity: How to Change Difficulty

Developed by Amplitude and published by Sega, Humankind is a great new 4X strategy game that has the potential to become quite a serious competitor to the Civilization series. It has many elements that resemble the Civ, while also introducing several new mechanics that help it stand out from the competition. Here’s how to change the difficulty setting in Humankind.

Change the difficulty in humanity

A game of Humankind can be pretty brutal depending on the environment you’re playing in, as AI opponents can get really aggressive and hostile, and you could also quickly lose control of your empire if you don’t focus on stability. The good news is that you can change the difficulty before the game starts by going to the game settings menu.

From there, you can select the settings that you think will best suit your skill level. We’ve listed all the difficulty settings below, along with their changes:

Village

AI bonus

  • -50% FIMS in all cities
  • -50% Fe
  • -50% influence
  • -1 Combat strength in all units

Player bonus

  • +50 stability in all cities
  • +2 to combat strength in all units

The difficulty equivalent to overseeing a small, mundane settlement. In other words, very easy.

Town

AI bonus

  • -20% FIMS in all cities
  • -10 fortifications in all cities
  • -20% Fe
  • -20% influence
  • -1 Combat strength in all units

Player bonus

  • +25 stability in all cities
  • +1 combat strength in all units

Many local mayors would have been angry at the suggestion, but it’s easy child’s play.

Metropolis

AI bonus

  • + 5% FIMS

As difficult as running a big city; a normal difficulty for growing political leaders.

Nation

AI bonus

  • + 20% FIMS in all cities
  • + 5% faith
  • + 5% influence

Comparable to ruling a living nation; hard work, even for aspiring autocrats.

Empire

AI bonus

  • + 30% FIMS in all cities
  • +15 Fortification in all cities
  • + 10% faith
  • + 10% influence
  • +1 combat strength in all units

As Genghis Khan would attest, running an empire is very difficult.

Civilization

AI bonus

  • +2 Food per farmer in all cities
  • +2 Industry per worker in all cities
  • +2 money per merchant in all cities
  • +2 Sciences per researcher in all cities
  • +45 stability in all cities
  • +1 combat strength in all units

An almost impossible challenge for leaders who really want to test their courage to rule.

Humanity

AI bonus

  • +3 Food per farmer in all cities
  • +3 Industry per worker in all cities
  • +3 Money per merchant in all cities
  • +3 science per researcher in all cities
  • +60 Stability in all cities
  • +2 to combat strength in all units

As difficult as taking the entire human race to the stars. The ultimate, if not infinite challenge!
