How to wash a swimsuit

we are in the middle of summer and with very high temperatures so we all want to be able to escape to the beach or the pool. During the summer we punish our swimwear a lot, we subject it to continuous changes in temperature, different waters … The result: it loses color, shape and the rubber bands dissolve like butter. Did you know that if you take good care of your swimsuit it can last you for several seasons ?

In this article, we show you how to wash a swimsuit or bikini in such a way that you are always ready to wear it at its best. You will never again throw away your swimming trunks prematurely, which will save you a lot in the long run . We guarantee it! Are you ready or ready? Take note that we start!

1. The salt and vinegar trick

Before releasing your bikini, that is, when it leaves the store, you have to soak it in salted water and a little vinegar . What do we do with this? Fix the colors. We do this to prevent, especially if it has prints in different tones.

Believe us, it is very important that you do this if you do not want to carry a faded swimming trunks everywhere, or even worse if you have to throw it away at the first change because the colors have been totally mixed.

2. Always wash after use

What do we guess your routine to wash a bikini or a swimsuit? You spend the whole morning on the beach, between sea water and salty sand … Later, you go directly into the pool with its corresponding chlorine, and when you go out you go quickly to the shower to rinse your body and your bathing suit, ¿ true?

Do you think it is enough? The answer is no! After each use, it is essential to wash your swimsuit with neutral soap . In this way we remove the salt and chlorine. To rinse it is only necessary to use plenty of warm water.

3. And when does it go to the washing machine?

Attention! You don’t need to put your bathing suit or swimming trunks in the washing machine every day. Once a week is enough, as long as you have washed it after each use with a little neutral soap. This machine wash is done to remove dirt more thoroughly .

Of course, to wash it you will need a cotton bag, if you do not have you can use a pillowcase. It is also convenient that you use a program for delicates.

4. Be careful when draining the swimsuit

Are you one of those people who twists your swimsuit after washing it? Well, you are doing this practice wrong, since when you drain it, it loses its shape and elasticity. The best thing you can do is place it between two dry towels so that they absorb all the moisture.

However, you can let it dry without wringing. Anyway, it is a garment prepared to be continuously soaked, don’t you think? Be patient and it will dry completely without losing any of its elasticity.

5. Watch out for the sun

The usual thing is to let the swimsuit dry in the sun, the problem is that when you pick it up it will be completely stiff and will have aged for years in a few hours . That is why it is best to leave it to dry in the shade and with the print on the inside.

Avoid putting tweezers on it, since in this fabric it is very easy for marks to remain, and this is not what we want, right? Of course, make sure that when you pick up the swimsuit it is totally dry, if not, bad odors could concentrate, there could even be fungi or microbes.

6. Give your bathing suit a break

We know that that swimsuit that you have bought this year is your favorite, but that is no excuse to give it the whip you are giving it. The best thing you can do is always have a spare. This will restore your swimsuit to its original shape when in a resting state .

Above all, you have to take it seriously when your swimsuit is made of lycra, it is a material that needs rest from time to time.

7. Prevent is better than cure

What we are going to explain to you now is pure logic. The less you wear your swimsuit, the less you are going to spoil it. Logically, wear it whenever you want to show it off. But when it comes to going to an amusement park, or a water park, it is best not to wear your favorite, or exposure to the sun will wreak havoc .

In these cases, you could search among your old models, the one that is 100% polyester, since this fabric has greater resistance than lycra .

8. Ironing is prohibited

Have you ever considered ironing your swimsuit? Well, get it out of your head. The swimsuit is not ironed, the materials with which they are made are not prepared for such direct heat stroke . So, don’t even think about it no matter how wrinkled you may be. You are warned or warned! Then don’t say we didn’t warn you.

9. Keep it well at the end of the season

Another very important thing to properly preserve your swimsuit is to store it as it deserves. Give it a wash in the washing machine on a delicates program, let it air dry out of the sun and store it in a cloth bag inside a box in a slightly humid environment.

Try not to be in contact with other clothes, that is, not too tight. Let it breathe! You will see how your swimsuit is intact for next year.
