The digital certificate is a digital data document, which identifies us and is authenticated by official bodies. These certificates allow us to electronically sign documents in a completely secure way.

What is the digital certificate for?
The main advantage of the digital certificate is that it allows us to carry out administrative procedures over the Internet. The procedures that we can do are many and varied, such as:
- File and pay taxes.
- Claims or official resources.
- Cover the census data.
- Consult the municipal register.
- Check the traffic fines and even pay them.
- Request or consult grant applications.
- Sign official documents or forms.
These are the main possibilities, but there are many more, that is why we have explained what can be done with the digital certificate in depth.
Finding the certificate to prove our identity depends on the country, but in Spain this certificate is obtained on the website of the FNMT (National Currency and Stamp Factory), in the Digital Certification section and following the steps that are requested. In Spain there are 4 types of certificates that are:
- Physical person.
- Representative of legal persons that are sole or joint administrators.
- Representative of legal persons.
- Representative of entities without legal personality.
Once we request the certificate and have the password provided in the process, the resulting file should have the extension .cer, .crt, .pfx or .p12 .
From here we will be able to work with them, since our terminals will serve us for any government app in which we want to carry out procedures.

How to install on Android
The way to install a digital certificate on Android is much easier than you might imagine, since you just have to follow the following steps:
- We will copy the file that we have downloaded, uncompressed, to our mobile phone in a folder (remembering where we have copied it). It can be the internal storage of the mobile or the microSD card , if the device has one.
- We will open the file manager of the mobile phone and go to the path where we have saved the certificate file, if the app that comes by default does not work for us, we can download Files Go, the Google file manager .
- Now we click on the file to run it and, when it asks us for the key, we will have to put the one used for encryption.
Now that the certificate has been installed, every time we enter a government application (DGT type) we only have to choose the installed certificate to prove our identity in said applications.
In fact, today it is even possible to carry a driving license on your mobile thanks to the new app of the General Directorate of Traffic.
How to install on iPhone
Installing a digital certificate can be done on iPhone or iPad too, how could it be otherwise, although it has some more steps to follow if we compare it with Android.
Obviously, we must have a digital software certificate in valid formats, which are .cer, .crt, .pfx and .p12.
Once we have the digital certificate, we will follow the following steps to install it on an iOS device:
- We can send the file to the iPhone or iPad through iCloud, by email or by any messaging application.
- Now is the time to save the certificate in the internal storage of our iPhone or iPad, only if iCloud was not used.
- We open ” File ” and go to the path that contains the digital certificate file.
- Click on the certificate and choose the iPhone when it asks where to download it.
- Once this is done, we must now go to the iOS settings .
- Under the information of the personal Apple account we will see ” Downloaded Profile “, where we must enter.
- Click on ” Install ” and then write the certificate password, with this it will be installed on our iPhone or iPad.
