The Euro Stoxx 50 is a Eurozone equity stock index designed by Stoxx, an index provider owned by the Deutsche Börse Group. It is made up of fifty of the largest and most liquid stocks. Futures and index options on the Euro Stoxx 50, traded on Eurex, are among the most liquid products of this type in Europe and in the world.
The index was introduced in 1998. Its components are reviewed annually in September. The index is available in various currencies (eg EUR, CAD). The calculation is made every 15 seconds. The index is derived from the 19 Euro Stoxx regional sector indices and represents the sector’s largest leaders in the Eurozone in terms of market capitalization. The index captures 60% of the market capitalization of the EURO STOXX Total Market Index (TMI is 95% of the market capitalization of the countries represented).
