How is it that a duck keeps warm and dry when in the water ?

For the same reason that a fisherman keeps warm and dry when securely clad in sou’-wester and oilskins.
The duck secretes a greasy substance which forms a coating for its plumage. The water will not mix with oil,
and consequently it runs off.
