Biographical synthesis
He was born into a poor family. He studied Journalism, Psychology and Music. From a very young age he was inclined to art and loved to write songs. He was obsessed with Star Wars and admired Michael Jackson . He grew up listening to motown and pop, like Prince Rogers , Janet Jackson , The Smiths , U2, and others.
Artistic life
In 1992 he joined The Red Edge, a cover band, where he met Daniel Jones after an advertisement for “A Singer Wanted.” From that moment they both realized their great musical affinity, so they left the band to form the duo Savage Garden , where they began to compose their own songs.
They both worked hard and recorded a five-song demo, which they sent unsolicited to more than 150 record companies across Australia. At the end of 1995 they recorded their first album and won ten ARIA awards , such as best band, best album, best debut album, best single and best song of the year, thus beginning their worldwide fame.
They participated in the soundtrack of the film The Other Sister with the song The Animal Song . They toured Europe , Asia , Australia , New Zealand , the United States, and Canada .
In 2001 they decided to separate. Darren continued his solo career and to date, he has released two CDs: Spin and The Tension and the Spark and recently a CD featuring the hits of Savage Garden.
In 2011 he released Secret Codes and Battleships his fourth solo album marking nearly 20 years in the music business.
