Dania Gonzlez Couret. Architect ( 1979 ), Doctor of Technical Sciences ( 1994 ) and Doctor of Sciences ( 2007 ) from the José Antonio Echeverría Higher Polytechnic Institute (ISPJAE). She was Head of the Department of Design of the Faculty of Architecture of the ISPJAE from 1995 to 1999 , Vice Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies of the Faculty itself from 1999 to 2009 .and is currently the Director of Postgraduate Studies. She is President of the Academic Committee of the Doctorate Program in Architecture and Member of the National Tribunal of Scientific Degrees for the Specialty of Architecture and Urbanism. She is president of the Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree in Social Housing that has been taught throughout the country since 1999 and accredited with Excellence in 2007 . Full Academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences , since 2012 .

Career path

Since her graduation in 1979 to date she has worked as a teacher at ISPJAE.

Since 1981, he has been dedicated to research-development work on habitat issues, with an emphasis on environmental impact, the use of resources, renewable energies, bioclimatic design and sustainability in general, combining this work with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. .

From 1987 to 1992 he worked in rural settlements throughout the country. This work contributed to the integration of the conceptions of sustainability in the theory and practice of rural settlements in Cuba, for which it also obtained an Award at the Architecture Biennial 30 years of the Revolution and an Award for the Most Useful Result in Higher Education. in 1990.

In 1994 he founded the National Board of Directors of CUBASOLAR , being since 2000 its representative on the Board of Directors of ARC-PEACE International.

Since 1992, he extended the application of these principles and conceptions to the urban habitat, collaborating in the introduction of alternative technologies in suburban areas and demonstrating the inappropriateness of some practices then assumed in Cuba. The contribution of his scientific results in this field was recognized in the Annual Award for the Most Outstanding Doctorate in the Branch of Technical Sciences in 1995, the Architecture Award of the City of Havana in the “Publications” category for the book “Economy and Housing Quality. A Cuban approach” in 1997, the Annual Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and the Special Distinction of the Minister of Higher Education in 2000.

Since 1998, it has focused its attention on traditional compact urban centers, venturing into the search for appropriate solutions for new homes that allow good use of urban land and, at the same time, an appropriate interior environment to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants. The results of his work in this field have been recognized through the Grand Prize obtained in the National Habitat Design Contest in 1999, the Third Prize in the Ibero-American Contest of the Living and Building Network of CYTED in Santiago de Chile in 2000, the Award for the Best Presentation at the “World Renewable Energy Congress”, in Cologne, Germanyin 2002, the Prize for “Teaching in Architecture” awarded in the 2003 Ecohouse Student Contest, in Oxford , other Prizes in the Forum of Science and Technology and in the Annual Balance of Research of the ISPJAE in 2006, Invention Patent for “Device of exit for natural ventilation ducts”, granted by the Cuban Office of Industrial Property in 2008; Accesit in the International Competition of La Rábida, Spain , 2008; Annual Prize of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and Technical Scientific Merit Prize for the scientific result of greatest importance and originality in 2008 for the work “Use of the soil and interior environment as conflicting variables for the sustainability of urban housing.”

As a result of his scientific career, he was awarded the “Carlos J. Finlay Medal” in 2005 by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

In 2007 he received the Special Distinction from the Minister of Higher Education for the work of Postgraduate and Doctoral Training. Additionally, also in 2008 he won a prize in the National Contest for Scientific Dissemination convened by the Editorial Félix Varela for the book “Bioclimatic Architecture” and was awarded for the second time the Special Distinction of the Minister of Higher Education for the results of his scientific work. .
