This shark lived from the Barremian of the Cretaceous period to the Middle Miocene epoch , approximately 130.0 to 13.65 million years ago. [1] [2] [4] It is considered by many to be the ancestor of many of the famous genus of sharks , such as the mako, the great white, Angustidens, and the Megalodon sharks .
Feeding
It was one of the most widespread sharks in the world like: North America , North Africa . As all predators fed on a wide variety of prey, in the Cretaceous they fed on bony fish , sea turtles , Meuse saurians , squid and smaller sharks . While in the Eocene it fed on archaic whales .
Description
This predator had average teeth 1 to 2 cm (about 0.5 to 0.75 inches) long. They are broad with small cusps at the base of the main crown. [2]. Most estimates put the length of the shark at approximately 2-3 m (6.6-9.8 ft) long [2], with the largest specimens being about 3.6 m (12 ft) in length. .
