Biographical synthesis

At the age of 6 he began his studies at the Greek Conservatory with Professor K. Ekmetsooglou. In 1971, he received his diploma with an exceptional cash award. The following year (1972), when he was only 15 years old, he performed for the first time in public, performing the Concert of Aranjuez , by Joaquín Rodrigo . He continued his studies abroad with the Spanish Andrés Segovia (1893-1987), the Venezuelan Alirio Dias (1923-2016), the Spanish José Tomás (1934-2001), the Cuban Leo Brouwer (1939-). [1]

He won 15 international awards and diplomas. He has played in major cities in Greece, and has often collaborated with the state orchestras of Athens and Thessaloniki, the radio and the chamber of Megaron Music. He has played festivals in Athens, Patras and Heraklion, and has repeatedly recorded for radio and television. [1]

He has collaborated with important symphony orchestras such as the BBC , Moscow , Comes Opera Berlin (Germany), Radio Frankfurt (Germany), Paris (France), Brussels (Belgium).

He has collaborated with great teachers such as Leo Brouwer , Alonso, S. Kogan and others.

He has appeared in major music festivals: Athens (Greece), Patras (Greece), Granada (Spain) , Istanbul (Turkey) , Seville (Spain) , Belgrade (Serbia) , etc.). and in most of the guitar festivals: Paris , Havana , San Juan de Puerto Rico , Martinique , Lieja (Belgium), Caracas (Venezuela).

He participated as a member of the jury in international guitar competitions: Paris (France), Alexandria (Egypt) , Santiago de Chile , Havana (Cuba), San Juan de Puerto Rico , Belgrade (Serbia), Bari (Italy), Esztergom (Hungary) ), Madrid (Spain), etc.). [1]

Cotsiolis has an extensive activity of concerts, solo concerts or with artists such as John Williams , John McLaughlin , the Greek singer Maria Farantouri ( b.1947 ), Milva ( b.1939 ), José Antonio Rodríguez , Patrice Fontanarosa , etc.

In addition to composers such as Leo Brouwer (b. 1939), Ernesto Cordero (b. 1946) or Sergio Assad (b. 1952), they dedicated their compositions to him.

Cotsiolis was honored to present compositions by famous composers such as Mikis Theodorakis ( b.1925 ) and Thanos Mikroutsikos ( b.1947 ).

Since 1978, he has been the artistic director of the International Classical Guitar Festival in Volos (Greece) , which has been called the Naxos International Guitar Festival since 2006 .

Since 1977 he has taught at the Conservatory of Athens , since 1981 at the Conservatory of Thessaloniki (Greece), and since 2008 he is a professor at the University of Indianapolis (on its campus located in the city of Athens ).

Cotsiolis, considered one of the best interpreters of Leo Brouwer’s compositions, collaborated with famous symphony orchestras, such as the Frankfurt Broadcasting Orchestra , the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba Paris, Brussels (Belgium) , BBC (London), Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (‘German Youth Philharmonic Orchestra’), the Reina Sofía Symphony Orchestra (in Madrid ), Córdoba (Spain) , Cannes (France), etc.

He taught seminars at the Manhattan School of Music, Weimar (Germany), Berlin (Germany), Dallas (United States), Oslo (Norway), Salzburg (Austria), Mozarteum, etc.

Kostas Kotsiolis has recorded albums with the companies Melotnia, RCA Victor, Música Viva, Sony, Brassov and Radio Broadcasting Orchestra (in Brussels).

Since 1976 he has been a guitar teacher at the Conservatory of Athens, since 1981 at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, since 1989 at the Municipal Conservatory of Volos and since 1994 and at the Municipal Conservatory of Piraeus.

He has written two essays on guitar technique. He has taught at seminars, music academies and universities abroad.

Since 1978 he has been the director of the annual Volos Guitar World Festival.

In 1979 he was awarded the Spyros Monzenigos Prize by the Academy of Athens, internationally considered by the best guitarists of the new generation.

Within the framework of the International Festival of Patras 2010, organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Patras, at the Castle of Patras on July 28, 2010, the international guitarist Kostas Kotsialis will present to the public of our city the concert program From Vivaldi even The Beatles , with a very broad and interesting repertoire. [4]
