Chocobo

Chocobos . Fantastic birds from the Final Fantasy universe , developed by Square Enix . Morphologically they are huge galliform birds that in their common version cannot fly but, instead, have the ability to move at high speed over land, like ostriches. Most do not know how to speak either, they only emit the onomatopoeia “WARK” or “KUE”. They first appeared in the second installment of the saga, Final Fantasy II .

Use

In general, humans use Chocobos as a mount to travel, either riding it or using it to pull a cart. This transport is faster than traveling on foot and avoids random battles at the same time. At other times they occupy the role of adventurer rather than mount, and can even speak the common language.

However, in each installment of the saga the role given to the chocobos can vary. In Final Fantasy V the main character says that female chocobos cannot be ridden, although in most games in the saga no distinction is made between the sex of this species.

Chocobos have not only appeared in their mother series, Final Fantasy, but they have also appeared in other Square Enix games. They are one of the few creatures that maintain the coherence of the ever-changing chapters of the “Final Fantasy” series, whose worlds have little or nothing to do from one episode to another.

Final Fantasy Saga

Final fantasy ii

This was the first Final Fantasy in which the yellow chocobo appeared, he was in a forest called Chocobo Forest where just by talking to him he could ride. However, it is not a very relevant animal in history.

Final fantasy iii

This was the first Final Fantasy in which the Fat Chocobo appeared, a gigantic chocobo that allowed you to use your stomach as a safe, since you can eat objects and retrieve them anywhere. It appears inside the Invincible flying ship, and a carrot must be used for it to appear.

Final fantasy iv

Enter multiple colors of Chocobo. Standard Yellow is caught in the Chocobo forests and escapes when stripped. The Black Chocobo (which actually looks like navy blue) appears in closer forests at the end of the game, and is able to fly between forest areas; it is the only way to arrive at a specific destination.

Unlike the yellow chocobo, the black one waits for the rider when he dismounts and returns to the forest from which he started when he is reassembled. The white chocobo can be found wherever there are other chocobos, and although it cannot be ridden, it can restore magic points. The fat Chocobo reappears. The game has three Chocobo themes: Enter Fat Chocobo, Chocobo-chocobo, and Samba de Chocobo.

Final fantasy v

In Final Fantasy V , these funny creatures appear again. What’s more, the character has one of his own, called Boko. Chocobos forests can be found, and find normal chocobos and black chocobos.

Final Fantasy VI

In this installment, they can be mounted in a land environment to move around the world. They are also used in the attack of a character, in which a chocobos stampede against the enemy.

Final fantasy VII

With the arrival of the new generation of Final Fantasy, on PlayStation , Square began to make games with more minigames, in which there are always some related to chocobos. Thanks to them you can get many objects and materials of great value.

In this case, the first appearance of the chocobo is when you first arrive at the chocobo farm. There are several of them locked up locked up and if spoken to, they do a dance and deliver the Choco-Mog summoning matter . In order to play the minigame in this place, you buy the Chocobos-Attracting material.

The minigame of the chocobos consists of capturing them thanks to the Attract-Chocobos matter. By equipping this materia, Chocobos will spawn in some battles.

Several must be captured from different places on the planet and paired in order to get different types of chocobos (of different colors) that allow us to reach different parts of the world where there are caves of matter, where very useful materials are found. To get them, you have to capture them in battles, level them up through the Gold Saucer chocobos races, and pair them using a nut.

In battle, it is possible to find mediocre chocobos, good chocobos, fantastic chocobos, and wonderful chocobos. Through breeding it is possible to have: sky blue chocobos, which can move on land and shallow waters (rivers and the sea shore); green chocobos, which can move over land and mountains; black chocobos, which can move on land, mountains and shallow waters; and finally, golden chocobos, which can move on land, mountains, shallow sea, and very deep.

Final Fantasy VIII

Chocobos forests reappear. There is also a chocobo menu. Furthermore, using the pocketstation in the PSX version or with the minigame included in the PC version it is possible to train a chocobo and use it later as a GF.

Final Fantasy IX

This game includes a chocobos minigame, which begins in a forest, in which there is a moguri named Mene. The minigame consists of using Choco and his hard pickaxe to find objects that are underground. From time to time “chocographs” are found, showing places in the world where there are hidden treasures. Some of these treasures do not contain objects or equipment, but instead emit a smoke that transport the chocobo to the dream world of the chocobos and Chocogordo grants him new abilities, causing him to change color.

There are several chocobos: the common; sky blue chocobo, which can go through shallow water; red chocobo, which can go through shallow waters and mountains; dark blue chocobo, which in addition to the above can go through deep waters; and finally, golden chocobo, which can fly, although it can only take off and land in the forests, with the latter it is possible to reach the sky of the chocobos and face Ozma.

Aside from the chocography treasures, there are hidden treasures around the world that can be obtained by using lethal pepper in crevasses in the mountains. Also, there is a place that every chocobo wants to be.

In some treasure hunts in the chocobos forest, the chocobos cove and the Chocobos Floating Garden, choco fragments could be found which is a fragment of a chocography. If the 6 parts are found, you can join the pieces and form the chocography that allows your chocobo to reach its maximum level.

Final fantasy x

In the first installment of Final Fantasy for PlayStation 2 , the chocobos minigame allows you to get the odd object, although the only relevant thing is the main character’s last weapon.

It is mounted on a chocobo in two places: on the Mi’hen Path, where apart from using it to go faster and avoid random battles, it can be used to get some chests (interacting with chocobo feathers that are on the ground); and in the Plain of Calm, where you can handle the chocobo after training it, since to be able to handle it they have to have confidence with the one who rides them.

Aside from the first workout (hesitant chocobo), there are three more workouts: dodging chocobo, most dodging chocobo, and greedy chocobo. The latter is important to get the last weapon of the protagonist.

Final Fantasy X-2

Chocobos appear again in random battles, and items like gysahl vegetables. In this Final Fantasy, the chocobos minigame is quite extensive. It is used to obtain treasures in certain places, to discover secret caves, etc. Also, it can be used in the Sanubia Desert to excavate in the Central Zone.

Final Fantasy XI

In this online version of the game, the chocobos could not be absent, which are used as a means of transportation throughout the lands of Vanadiel. They have recently published a new update that allows you to breed your own chocobo. There are several colors available, depending on the type of food the chocobo is fed, as well as various types. Each type has its own characteristics, which can be improved as it is fed.

For example, the smallest, green in color and only ridden by Tarus, is the fastest of all, since it is said that it was shrunk by the magical power of the Tarus, and it also retains some of that power, which allows it to have a very light speed. In the event that you do not have time to raise one, you can always choose to rent one for a small fee, knowing that, in time, it will return to the stable and leave the player where he is, be it in the middle of a herd of angry goblins or cute little flowers.

Final Fantasy XII

In this installment, the chocobos once again have the basic function of being mounted to travel faster in certain areas avoiding encounters with enemies. The yellow race is the only one that has been domesticated, so that throughout the game you can find varieties of other colors that act as enemies.

Final Fantasy XIII

In this latest installment of the Final Fantasy saga there was no lack of chocobos. During the adventure there are trained chocobos and wild chocobos from the plain. The first adult chocobos that can be found are in the city of dreams Nautilus, a city-attraction where many people usually go to have fun to see eidolon shows and have fun. There the chocobos are part of an attraction and can be ridden.

It can only be ridden on a chocobo when the story has gone a long way and a portion of the Lu’cie missions in the game have been completed, giving them the ability to train and make them domestic. As a curious fact, Sazh has a baby chocobo that can fly, which he calls a chocobito and the one that he raises in his afro hair that acts as a nest, it comes out from the beginning of the story and is very funny. Sazh bought it to give it to his son, who loves chocobos, who for certain reasons has not been able to give it to him yet.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Here the chocobos fulfill several functions: as enemy monsters, as allied monsters and as mounts. There are 3 species: the normal yellow, the black that can fly and the red that has a great range of movement. They even have their own magic like Choco Esuna or Choco Meteor. It is worth mentioning that at a certain point in the game’s history, a chocobo ally with the name of Boco appears.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

In this installment they are rarely seen, and they are not controllable either. They come out as a mount of the Judges, and also wear armor, in the same way a chocobo attack called Chocobo Rush can be invoked by an Animist when using the Glass Bell.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2

Chocobos do not have a very important role here, but there are many varieties and they can be controlled thanks to the Chocodomador, a moguri profession that is obtained after winning the mission Popcho, Chocodomador. The species are: Yellow Chocobo, with the skills Chococura and Chocoattack; Chocobo Negro with Chococura, Chocoattack and Chocobola, besides being able to fly; White Chocobo with Chococura, Chocoataque and Chocobarrera; Green Chocobo with Chococura, Chocoataque and Chocoesna; Brown Chocobo with Chocoattack, Chococura and Chocodefensa; and Red Chocobo with Chocoataque, Chococura and Chocometeo.
