We are all political beings. Currently, the concept of politics is associated with Brazilian parties, but it turns out that it goes far beyond that. For example, any relationship that we have is political, as it is that which aims at good contact between people, especially those who have different thoughts.
It is politics, then, that provides laws and norms – institutional or not – that allow a pleasant and beneficial social life for everyone . Since the beginning of time, politics has been present in the history of mankind and, with evolution, has been improving in order to find new ways to create a just and egalitarian society.
Thus, it became essential to study and develop political concepts that support an ethical and responsible performance, not only by government officials, but also by the population as a whole. The study, then, brought together concepts from moral and political philosophy, economics, sociology and history, comprising the different types of state and the functions of government.
It was only in the 19th century that Political Science was consolidated as a career possibility in modern society. Created primarily by Herbert Baxter Adams, it became known as the study of politics, its systems, organizations and processes that allow the maintenance of a safe, just and full of civil rights society.
