Etymology of the word
Aurophobia comes from the Latin word aurum, gold, and from the Greek phobía, fear; therefore it means Fear of gold.
Extended definition
It is defined as a persistent, abnormal and unjustified fear of gold, of objects made of this precious metal.
Irrational fear of gold
The irrational fear of gold or similar elements, which is sometimes even taken to the extreme, calling it aurantrophobia (fear of money) and even yauntofobia (fear of the color yellow). It is mainly characterized by the fact that a seemingly normal person could even faint if a gold coin or other yellow metallic object were to fall or hit him: Nordic gold (which does not contain gold), etc.
Symptoms
The main symptom of aurophobia is panic attacks, although different symptoms are rapid breathing, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and slow breathing. Symptoms are usually triggered when the victim sees or approaches the gold.
Aurophobia is often treated simply by removing the memory from the mind that triggers it.
