Arachnophobia

Arachnophobia , is the fear ( phobia ) of spiders . It is one of the most common phobias, and possibly the most widespread animal phobia. The reactions of arachnophobes often seem irrational to other people, and even to the affected person. They try to stay away from any place where they think spiders live, or where they have observed spider webs. If they see a spider from a distance, they may not be able to enter the area, even if it is spacious, or at least they will have to make an effort first to control their panic , which is characterized by sweating, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat and nausea.

Definition

Arachnophobia like so many other phobias, is a fear that appears in certain situations that we face in this case, spiders or arachnids. This fear or fear begins to be detrimental to our life when it limits us to do what we want.

What is arachno?

Arachno is a term that refers to spiders or arachnids.

Arachnophobia

The reactions that arachnophobes have usually seem irrational to other people, and even to the individual himself. They try to stay away from any place where they think there may be spiders, or where they have seen spider webs. If they see a spider from afar, it will be very difficult or impossible for them to enter the area, even if it is large, or at least they will have to make an effort first to control their fear or panic, which is characterized by profuse sweating, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat and sickness.

The phobia of spiders can determine or influence where the affected person decides to live, go on vacation, even limit the sports or hobbies that they can enjoy regularly.

Like all phobias, arachnophobia is treated with psychological treatment . The normal thing is to use methods that gradually expose the affected person to the animal that terrifies them (this is called systematic desensitization), but shock systems have also been tried, in which the exposure is of great intensity and is carried out suddenly.

Overcome Arachnophobia

To overcome Arachnophobia, a treatment or therapeutic accompaniment is necessary, for this there are psychological therapies, NLP techniques and Ontological Coaching.

Treatments

Not all phobias require treatment, although the advice of a professional can always be decisive for those who suffer from them. Treatment is necessary when the phobia begins to limit the life of the affected person and changes their behavior habits.

Current techniques for the treatment of phobias are giving very satisfactory results. The most used are:

  • Deconditioning: consisting of matching the feared stimuli with objects that are pleasant for the patient.
  • Systematic desensitization: Consisting of exposing the patient to the phobic stimulus, presenting it gradually and under circumstances of total relaxation. Sometimes, depending on the patient, you can start with imaginative exposure and then move on to real situations.
  • The flood: consisting of directly exposing the patient to the phobic situation, an attempt is made to convince the patient to remain in that situation until they feel more comfortable and repeat this behavior until it becomes a routine.
