Aerotitan

Aerotitan is a genus of pterosaur from the Upper Cretaceous Period that lived in South America . Aerotitan has been assigned to the family Azhdarchidae . Becoming the first undisputed find of this type of pterosaurs in South America .

History

The type species, Aerotitan sudmericanus , was named and described in 2012 by Fernando Emilio Novas, Martin Kundrat, Federico Agnolín, Martín Ezcurra, Per Erik Ahlberg, Marcelo Isasi, Alberto Arriagada, and Pablo Chafrat. The genus name is derived from the Greek ἀήρ, aer, “air”, and titan in reference to the fact that the species was a large flying reptile . The name of the species refers to the fact that it inhabited South America

Description

This reptile had an elongated, transversely compressed snout, with toothless jaws . Its wingspan has been estimated to be at least five meters, it was carnivorous .
