Ali Salem Tamek. It is a symbol for the Saharawi people . Co-founder of the Coordinator of Defenders, imprisoned and tortured on numerous occasions. Tamek has been declared a “public enemy number one” in Morocco for his support for self-determination in Western Sahara.

Biographical synthesis
He was born in Assa in 1973 in the city of southern Morocco , in the bosom of a Saharawi family.
Family
Married, he has a daughter named Thawra, which in Arabic means Revolution.
Political activity
He has carried out several hunger strikes to assert Sahara’s right to self-determination , he has been detained several times. He was in prison from October 2009 to April 2011 for visiting the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf Algeria . Ali was also the protagonist of a 41-day hunger strike in the Salé Morocco prison. He has been denied the right to work, has been fired from his job, his passport has been confiscated for long periods of time and, as if to close the circle of torments, he has been prevented from studying Law and Journalism .
In 2003, he was sentenced to prison for “undermining the internal security of the state” as leader of the Saharawi branch of the human rights organization Foro por la Verdad y la Justicia. This led him to be considered by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience. Morocco accuses him of being an agent of the Polisario Front , and he admits supporting the goals of the movement, an independent state under the auspices of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic .
Present
He is currently the vice president of the Saharawi College of Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara .

Ali Salem Tamek has received numerous human rights awards. The last in March of 2010 , when the Assembly by Tenerife was awarded the “Jose Manuel Mendez” award.
