To begin with, I’ll show you immediately how to install CapCut : for your information, know that the app in question is completely free and is compatible with both Android devices starting from version 5.0 (also check on alternative stores if your smartphone or tablet does not integrates Google services) and with iOS / iPadOS from version 11.0
To download it, then, just connect to the link corresponding to your operating system provided in the previous paragraph and press the Install / Get button . If you have an iPhone or iPad, you will also need to verify your identity with Face ID , Touch ID, or Apple ID password .
Next, start the application by pressing on its icon on the Home Screen , then press the Accept button in the notification relating to the terms of service and the privacy policy. On the next screen, then, choose from the options New project , which provides the possibility to customize the editing through a rich set of ad hoc functionality, or Quick choice which, on the contrary, allows you to directly apply some presets in order to perform the edit in a very short time and with a few taps.
To allow you to have a more complete overview of the app, however, in this tutorial on how to edit on CapCut I have chosen to use the first option (New project): in the next chapters, therefore, you will find a detailed description of the different functions associated with the various stages of editing. In all cases, however, to proceed you will necessarily have to authorize the app to access the multimedia content on your device by pressing the Allow item to the next step.
How to edit on CapCut
Before getting to the heart of this tutorial and starting to find out how to edit on CapCut , you must first choose the elements that will be part of your editing: therefore, after starting a new project by clicking on the relative option, select the resource of your device from which you want to draw from the appropriate drop-down menu located at the top, which by default shows the Album item , then press on the Video or Photo item to load the relative type of file to be included in the composition.
Once you have identified the movie or image, press on the circle located at the top right of the respective preview box and you will notice that, at the same time, this will be enhanced with a cardinal number : in fact, keep in mind that at this stage you can also perform a multiple selection . When finished, then, press the Add button located at the bottom right.
You will be sent directly to the main screen of the app, which is composed as follows: the app player is centrally located , thanks to which you can view the changes made to the video in real time using the usual forward and pause buttons . Further down you will find the Timeline panel , in which the temporal sequence of events is arranged, while at the bottom there are the menus that allow you to access the various functions made available by CapCut.
How to edit a video
The first operation I recommend you to undertake is the one relating to the actual editing , intended as the realization of the cut and sew of images and videos that will allow you to organize the sequence of clips.
CapCut really offers a large amount of editing functions , all very intuitive: to find out how to edit a video, just press the Edit button (the first, corresponding to the scissors symbol ) located at the bottom left and you will see that the menu main will be replaced with new tools.
For example, if you want to delete one or more frames of a clip, slide your finger on the timeline so that the white line that identifies the starting point of the playback coincides with the initial part of the event you want to remove, then press Division from the menu below. Then repeat the operation you just performed by placing the cursor, this time, at the final point of the selection and pressing the Division button again .
Next, touch the video fragment you just obtained to select it (it will be highlighted by a white frame ), then press the Delete item from the menu below. On the contrary, to replicate it, touch the Copy option : in this way, its duplicate will be simultaneously generated, right next to it. Did you make a mistake at this stage? No problem, you can easily fix it at any time by touching the arrow symbol pointing to the left , located at the bottom right of the player, to return to the previous step.
To move a portion of the video and rearrange the sequence of events, instead, press and hold on the clip you want to move on the timeline: a preview of the various elements of which the movie is composed will be generated and you will simply have to place it in the point you prefer, releasing the finger to make the change.
You can also shorten or lengthen the duration of a clip by acting on the white anchors that are located at the ends of the same, holding them down and dragging them to the right or left to change the extent to your liking.
Now let’s see some of the editing tools in this section that I think are the most interesting: Speed , for example, allows you to speed up or slow down the selected clip in different ways. This feature provides two options, namely Normal , which allows you to set the speed by moving the appropriate selector in a range of values between 0.1 × and 100 ×, or Curve , which provides the original presets which, at in turn, they are also customizable.
The tool called Remove background , on the other hand, as can be easily understood from its name, automatically deletes, without the need for any additional interaction, the background image behind the main subject of the selected clip, while the one called Invert performs a reverse making it start from last frame of the same and end with the first.
The Edit function (homonymous to that of the main menu, but characterized by the presence of a square symbol ), provides some useful tools such as Rotate , Mirror and Crop : the latter is of particular importance as it allows you to reduce to your liking frame the video through a grid. Here, there are special anchors that allow resizing both in width and in length. Alternatively, it is also possible to consider the use of a conventional format among those proposed in the menu shown below.
To conclude, I also strongly suggest you try the tools inside the Adjust item , useful for setting the balance of essential parameters such as brightness , contrast , saturation , exposure , hue .
How to add music
Video could be boring without adequate background music, don’t you think? So let’s see how to add music to the edit on CapCut through the Audio feature , present in the main menu next to the Edit option .
Here you will find several interesting options, in particular within the Sounds category , where you can choose from a wide range of backing tracks divided by genre or atmosphere (to obtain them you must first proceed to the download by pressing the arrow symbol pointing downwards ), o upload the audio files stored on your device by pressing the word From device : in all cases, to apply them you will have to press the [+] button corresponding to the element you want to add.
To change its duration or move the new track that is added to the timeline to another position, the procedure is the same as for the clips in the previous chapter . Furthermore, in this section it is also possible to extrapolate the audio of another movie present on your smartphone or tablet by pressing the Extract sound from video function , selecting the desired clip and pressing the Import sound only button : the audio will be automatically added to the new project.
Finally, I would like to point out the presence of a large variety of sound effects within the section of the same name, which can be downloaded in the same way as described in the previous step for the pre-packaged bases. Finally, the last option allows you to add a voiceover simply by holding down the button with the microphone symbol and releasing it as soon as the recording is finished.
Selecting by pressing an audio track, in the menu at the bottom of the screen some useful functions dedicated to its modification will be proposed: it is possible to apply the fade by setting the fade in and fade out values , adjust the volume , cut a part of the song (also in in this case the procedure is the same as for the video clips in the previous chapter ), add or cut a rhythm and change the speed of the track .
How to enter text
If you want to find out how to insert text into your new project, after selecting the clip to which you want to add it, just press on the relative function marked by a capital “T” symbol in the main menu. First, therefore, define the message you want to apply by pressing the Add text function and typing it using the keypad of your device that appears at the same time.
At this stage you can also rotate the text by holding down the function located in the lower right corner of the text box (the one with the two arrows that draw a square) and scrolling with your finger to change the angle, or move the box to another position by dragging. Once this is done, touch the Style mode and define the font , shape , color and level of opacity using the appropriate tools.
Alternatively, press the Effects item to apply one of the presets proposed in this category and, if you wish, add a comic among those offered in the Bubble section . The last option, called Animation , allows you to “move” the text by selecting one of the modes provided within the Inside , Outside and Playback classes .
Another interesting option present within the Add Text function is that relating to Text Templates : these are also very elaborate and intriguing presets in this case. To apply them, simply select one of the categories indicated in the appropriate menu and press on one of the options proposed in the lower part of the display. To write the text, then, press inside the box that is generated on the player and type it always using the keypad integrated in the device, then confirm everything by pressing the check mark located on the right.
You can also access further text editing features by selecting the relevant text track in the timeline: in addition to those already analyzed in the previous chapters relating to the possibility of splitting , copying and deleting the clip, I would also like to point out the possibility of adding a speech synthesis of the text. .
How to add effects and filters
Now, let’s take a look at some of CapCut’s most tantalizing features and see in particular how to add effects and filters to your movie. Again starting from the main menu (if you are in a submenu you can go back by pressing the arrow symbol located to the left of it) press the Effects button and then press the Video Effects option .
Also in this case it is possible to select the theme of the effect from the categories proposed in the bar located under the player and choose a specific one by pressing on one of the boxes located in the section below: in some cases it will be necessary to download it in advance by pressing the arrow symbol located at the top right of the element.
Once this is done, try to customize the effect by pressing on the Adjust item that appears in the selected box and move the selectors that appear to set the intensity or some particular parameters such as color and speed , then confirm the change by pressing the sign check mark located on the right.
Another interesting function present in the Effects section is represented by the Body Effects tool , which is able to apply original presets to the figure of a person, (or even just to the face or hands, for example, in according to the selected mode).
As for the Filters , however, these are always accessible from the main menu and are similarly divided into categories that can be easily selected by pressing. Both the filters and the effects generate a dedicated track on the timeline, which, when selected, is editable in the same way as the other clips (in the chapter on editing I showed you how to do it) and allows you to access an ad hoc menu via the which to replace, rectify or redefine the previously applied settings.
Finally, to apply the transition effects between one clip and another, press the white symbol with a line inside it that separates the various elements within the timeline, then select one of the numerous presets in the panel below and press the check mark to apply it.
Other features
CapCut allows you to access numerous other features which, I am sure, will surprise you for the quality they are able to attribute to the processing of the movie. Among these, I would like to point out some that I consider particularly effective.
- Sticker– these are cute stickers that can be imprinted on the video by drawing on a wide range of elements proposed within predefined categories.
- Overlay– this function allows you to overlay a second video or photograph on the original project, choosing from your personal catalog or archive images proposed by the application.
- Canvas– it is also possible to apply a background texture to the images with this intuitive tool, choosing a photo in the gallery or one of the images in the archive made available by CapCut.
- Format– you can define a uniform format for the whole project simply by choosing one of those proposed within the section in question.
In any case, I invite you to experiment with all the other functions within the various submenus that are shown, for example, by selecting a certain clip: in fact, there are many editing options offered by this amazing app.
How to export a project
Have you finished your work and are you satisfied with the result? Perfect, in this case I will show you immediately how to export a project and possibly share it, for example, in the various social networks on which you are profiled.
To begin with, define the resolution of the movie using the menu located at the top, which by default is set with the 720p option : in the following screen, then use the appropriate indicators to increase or decrease the number of pixels (up to a maximum of 1080p ) and the frame rate , considering that the higher the definition, the higher the size of the final product.
Once this is done, press the arrow symbol pointing up , located in the upper right corner and wait for the export of the project. Then, press the Done button located at the top right, or choose the channel to share it between the social options of TikTok , WhatsApp , Facebook or Instagram , or press the last button More , with which you can, among the various options , save it in your Cloud space (such as Dropbox or Google Drive ) or send it by email.
