You are a photo editing enthusiast and Photoshop is your daily bread. In this period, however, your busy schedule often takes you away from home and therefore you go in search of a version of the famous Adobe software to use on the move, perhaps on smartphones and tablets.
Well, perhaps there is no app that can completely replace Photoshop in its most advanced functions, but there are apps for Photoshop – even made by Adobe itself – thanks to which it is possible to retouch images via smartphone and tablet, reaching however excellent results.
The applications in question can be downloaded and used for free and, as regards those of Adobe, thanks to Adobe CreativeSync technology they also allow you to synchronize your projects with the cloud, so that you can access them from any device. Would you like to know more? Well, that’s what I’m here for. Take five minutes of free time and read the directions I am about to give you.

Free Photoshop app
You can’t wait to find out which free Photoshop apps you could use with your smartphone or tablet, so you can be up and running at all times, even when you’re not in front of your PC.
In this case, all you have to do is take a look at the next paragraphs, where I will tell you about the apps developed by Adobe to use Photoshop on mobile devices.
Photoshop Express (Android / iOS / iPadOS)
The first app I want to tell you about is called Photoshop Express , which allows you to be able to retouch your photos in a few simple steps. It is free and available for download both on Android devices (also on alternative stores ) and on iPhone and iPad . If you are looking for a free iPhone Photoshop app , this is definitely your best choice.
Once the app has been downloaded and installed , open it and tap on the Next button and then on Continue . On the next screen, you need to log in to your Adobe ID by tapping the Adobe ID button or, alternatively, log in with your Google account or your Facebook account .
Once you have logged in with your account, tap on the Continue button , then on OK and on Allow from the pop-up that appears on the screen, to allow the app to access the files in the device’s memory. The next screen will show a list with all the photos on your device, so just select the photo you want to retouch. If, on the other hand, you want to take a photo and then proceed with the photo editing, tap on the All photos item at the top and select the Camera item . In addition, from this section, you can also select photos from the Lightroom or Creative Cloud library .
Once the photo has been selected, it will open within the editor integrated within the app, through which you can access various tools that will be very useful in the retouching phase.
For example, by tapping on the icon with the three intertwined circles , you can access all the pre-set filters in the app, which you can apply with a simple tap. By tapping on the icon with the two concentric circles , however, you can apply effects, such as flashes of light, bokeh, raindrops and much more. There is also the Crop tool , the possibility to make manual adjustments, to remove the defects in the photo (the patch icon ) or to correct the red eye effect (the icon with the eye ). Finally, to enrich the photo, you can access the Font section (the icon of a T ) or stickers (thelittle heart ).
You’ve probably noticed that some effects, fonts or stickers have a star icon on a blue background . This star indicates that this is a Premium feature , but it can still be used free of charge for a certain period of time.
Once you have completed the photo retouching operations, all you have to do is tap on the Next button at the top right and tap on the Save to gallery item , if you want to save the photo on the device, or tap on the Other item to access the sharing menu and share the photo with one of the apps, such as messaging or cloud storage .
Photoshop for iPad
You usually use an iPad to perform small photo editing jobs, perhaps even using the handy Apple Pencil . However, you have noticed that the Photoshop Express app is a bit limited for your needs, so you would like to understand if there was a more valid and complete alternative.
In this case I recommend you to use the Photoshop app for iPad , which you can download for free from the App Store and which is certainly much more complete and is closer to the version for Windows PC and Mac. Even if the download is free, it is possible use it for free only for the first 30 days , after which it is necessary to take out a subscription at a cost of 10.99 euros per month or 88.99 euros per year .
Once the app has been downloaded and installed , open it and on the page that opens, log in with your Adobe ID by tapping the Sign in with Adobe button . Alternatively, tap the Sign in with Apple button to use your Apple ID , the Sign in with Google button to use a Google account , or the Sign in with Facebook to use a Facebook account .
On the next page, choose how you want to bill the app subscription, monthly or annually, and tap on the button Start the free trial version : confirm the subscription through Face ID or Touch ID and tap on the OK button . If you want to deactivate the subscription, see my tutorial on how to cancel a subscription on iPhone and also valid for iPad.
Once in the main screen of the app, tap on the Import and open item at the bottom left and from the menu that opens, tap on the Photo item : select the photo you want to retouch and wait for the upload.
Now all you have to do is perform the photo editing using the tools you want which you can access from the toolbar on the side, very similar to what happens with Photoshop on a PC .
Once the changes are finished, to export and save the result obtained, tap on the share button at the top right and from the menu that appears tap on the Publish and export item : choose the format you want to use (for example JPEG ), the quality of the file and tap on the Export button . From the menu that appears on the screen, tap on Save image to save it within the Photos app , or Save to File if you want to save it within this app.
Photoshop App: Physical
Were you reviewing a photo taken at the beach with your friends and it doesn’t freak out how you look? Did you notice that you weren’t very fit and would like to apply some minor tweaks? Personally I am against practices of this type, as one can end up wanting to adhere to finite standards of beauty imposed by society. Editing a photo won’t make you feel better, but will only hide what you consider a flaw (and which most likely isn’t really): if you really want to change things, get involved in real life and take care of yourself, so as to also take care of what is the physical aspect.
Anyway, if there really is a photo you really want to edit, you can retouch it and with some physical Photoshop apps , like the ones below.
Perfect Me (Android / iOS / iPadOS)
If you are looking for a body Photoshop app , you can take a look at Perfect Me , which allows you to edit your face and body quite simply and quickly.
After downloading and installing the app (which you can also use as an app for abdominal Photoshop ) on Android (also available on alternative stores ) or iPhone / iPad (there are minimally invasive advertising banners, but if you want to remove them you can switch to the Premium version of the ‘app at a price of 5.99 euros per month , 11.99 euros per year or 17.99 euros as a one-off purchase ), tap on the Next button and then on Let’s go .
At this point, tap the Allow button or While using the app from the pop-up that appears on the screen (depending on the model of device you use) to grant all the required permissions. Once in the main screen, if you want to change the body, tap on the Body item and select the photo you want to retouch.
On the page that opens, you can proceed with the retouching of the body by tapping the Auto button in the Body section : in this way the app will automatically modify the body so that it looks as realistic as possible. If, however, you want to act manually, tap on the Waist item and use the commands that appear on the screen to fine-tune the body.
Once you have made all the changes you want, you can save the result by tapping the Download button at the top right (this is a cloud-based solution, so please note that your photos will end up on remote servers).
How do you say? You don’t particularly like the app in question and would like to know if there are other similar apps? No problem, in this case I suggest you consult my tutorial on the subject .
Photoshop app: face
Have you tried to take a selfie, which you may use as a profile photo on messaging apps or social networks like Facebook or Instagram , but you don’t particularly like the result, because your smartphone is not exactly the latest and the front camera does not have great quality.
For this reason are you looking for Photoshop face apps , in order to improve the result obtained with your smartphone? No problem, below I will tell you about some apps that could definitely be for you. Always keep in mind, however, the premises on the false aesthetic canons made in the previous chapter, please!
YouCam Perfect (Android / iOS / iPadOS)
An app that you can try to edit your face in photos is YouCam Perfect , available for free for download on Android devices (also on alternative stores ) and on iPhone and iPad . Basically the app is free , but there are advertising banners. If you want to remove them and unlock additional functions, a Premium version is available at a price of € 5.49 per month or € 26.99 per year (in this case you will also get 7 days free ).
Once the app has been downloaded and installed , open it and tap on the Ignore button at the top right and then on the arrow icon at the top left of the page that offers you to try the Premium version .
Once in the main screen, tap on the Edit photo button , allow access to the files on your device and select the photo you want to edit. After a few seconds, the editor will open and you can change the face in the photo quite easily and quickly. To proceed, tap on the Beauty Tools item at the bottom and then on the Automatic button: choose one of the available filters and tap on the button with the √ icon at the bottom right.
If you want to act manually and more intensively, you will find other tools that could certainly come in handy, such as Face-Model , through which you can change the silhouette of the face, or Tone , through which you can change the color of the skin.
Once you have completed the changes, you can save the result by tapping the Save button at the top right.
