Discord has become an integral part of the lives of many users, especially gamers. Some even do their daily business and sit on a call with friends at the same time. But there is a desire to delete Discord from the computer or completely delete your account. The reasons can be different: from the banal need to change the platform to the urge to “disappear from the network”, as it was in VK in the early 2000s.
We figured out how to properly say goodbye to Discord, not lose important information, and what risks deleting an account entails.
How to remove Discord from your computer
First of all, take care of your personal data. If you created servers, you need to either delete them or transfer the rights to another user. For example, if you want to create a new page and post in a group from it.
- To delete a server, launch Discord and find the one you want on the main page in the left column.
- Right-click on the desired icon and in the menu that appears, select “Server Settings”, then “Community Settings”.
- In the menu that opens, scroll down to the “Delete Server” option. Discord will ask you to enter the exact name of the server, it is better to copy and paste it in advance.
- Only the server creator can delete it. If you were invited, all you have to do is say “pack up, likes, we’re leaving” and unsubscribe.
- Having sorted out personal data, let’s proceed to uninstalling the application itself from the PC. The easiest way is through the Windows Control Panel. Open the Start menu and type “Control Panel” in the search.
- Click on the icon and in the window that opens, find the section “Programs”, next to it in small blue text is written “Uninstall programs”, we need to go there.
- In the list of installed programs, find Discord, you can use the search so as not to rummage through the entire list.
- Left-click on it, the “Delete” button will appear in the menu, click on it. The system may ask you to confirm the action – agree. After that, the uninstallation process will begin. Usually it lasts no more than a minute, the speed mainly depends on the power of the PC’s RAM.
Another option for removing Discord from your PC if you can’t open the “Control Panel” is Settings. Open “Start” and click on the gear icon. The “Options” program will open, select “Applications” in the menu and a new page will open. In the search for programs, write Discord, the message “Application found” will appear. Left-click on the icon and “Delete”.
Discord can still be used through a browser, even without the program on your computer.
Delete Discord Account
If you want to not just delete the app, but completely erase your Discord account, then think carefully.
To delete your account, open Discord in your browser or app and go to the “Edit Profile” section. To do this, click on your avatar and pencil on the main screen.
A new page will open, in the list on the left select the section “My account” and at the very bottom you will see the button “Delete account”. After clicking, the system will ask you to enter the password and the two-factor authentication code, if it is configured. This is an additional measure of account protection from fraudsters who want to delete someone else’s account.
After confirmation, your page will hang in the “Pending deletion” status for 14 days. In two weeks, the account can be revived on the main login page.
If you don’t restore your account within 14 days, that’s it. The page is completely, permanently, and irrevocably deleted from the Discord system. The process is irreversible. All memes, correspondence, chats, and groups will be erased from the face of the earth forever.
Pitfalls of Uninstalling Discord
If you own the server, before deleting the account, be sure to transfer the rights to another user to save the group, otherwise just delete the server. If you do nothing, then your case will forever remain in a “suspended” state, without new content and the ability to take the owner’s rights from a new page.
Before uninstalling the program, make sure you have saved all important data. Although Discord stores most of the information on the servers, some local settings can be lost.
Deleting the app does not automatically delete your account. The page will remain, and you can return to it at any time through a browser, an app on your phone, or by downloading Discord again on your PC.
