Strengths and Weaknesses of Zhu Yuan
At the moment, Zhu Yuan’s strengths and weaknesses are mostly dictated by her attribute, faction, and sub ability. We will update this section after the character is released and more testing is done.
Zhu Yuan’s strengths:
- The first agent whose additional ability can be activated only if a Support character is present in the squad;
- Currently, this is the only character with the Attack specialty and the Ethereal attribute;
- Has high synergy with Nicole, which we get for free as part of the story.
Zhu Yuan’s Weaknesses:
- The absence of other agents in the “Special Response Group of the Criminal Investigation Department” faction;
- No other agents with an ethereal attribute other than Nicole.
Best build for Zhu Yuan
This build will allow you to pump up Zhu Yuan’s Ethereal damage, and also increase the speed of energy recovery for more frequent use of E-shot and accumulation of charges of Reinforced Buckshot.
Signature Amplifier increases critical damage and critical hit chance. Also, when using an enhanced special attack, it gives 8 special charges that increase the basic attack’s etheric damage by 35%.
The proposed set of drive discs increases ether damage, critical damage and additionally restores energy.

The first option of the squad is the most obvious and the most accessible. But this does not mean that it is the worst. Nicole’s skills are ideal for supporting Zhu Yuan in battle, lowering the enemy’s defense and increasing the Ethereal damage.
The role of the agent stunning enemies automatically goes to Enby, who activates her additional ability through the faction “Sly Hares”. As a result, we get a classic build of Attack + Stun + Support.

Activating Zhu Yuan’s secondary ability via a Support agent opens up a lot of room for experimentation with squad composition and the Chaos mechanic. If you already have a strong team, using part of it is a good idea.
In this case, we take the Lycaon and Sokaku combo with the ice attribute, replacing Ellen with Zhu Yuan. Lycaon here stuns enemies, and Sokaku maintains the attack power buff.

A variation of the previous squad, built around the fire attribute. Lucy here provides an attack power buff and deals damage outside of the battlefield, Kolyada is responsible for stunning, and Zhu Yuan deals the main damage.

In this section of the guide, we’ll look at the best gear for Zhu Yuan and talk about the appropriate boosters and drive discs for the character. If you’re not quite familiar with the Zenless Zone Zero lexicon, the booster is the character’s weapon, and the drive discs can be called her artifacts.
Best Amplifiers (Weapons)
Riot Suppressor VI is a signature S-rank booster for Zhu Yuan that perfectly matches her fighting style. It significantly increases critical damage and critical hit chance. It also provides 8 special charges when using E-Shka, increasing the basic attack’s Ethereal damage by 35%.
The other options are more versatile and can be used as an alternative. From the A-rank amplifiers, we recommend choosing Artillery Rotor to increase critical hit chance and attack power or Star Engine.

Zhu Yuan Leveling Up
When leveling up Zhu Yuan’s skills, focus on Prowess first, as it increases the buff to her damage when using Enhanced Buckshot and attacking stunned enemies.
Then pump up Special and Basic attacks – their combination is used by the character most often. After them, it is worth paying attention to the Chain of attacks, and pump up the remaining two skills when extra resources appear.

Mental picture (constellations) of Zhu Yuan
Try to get at least one duplicate of Zhu Yuan to awaken the first Eidos. Thanks to the Rapid Reload effect applied by the chain attack or the Super ability, it allows her to restore 6 to 9 charges of Empowered Buckshot.
The sixth eidos looks very attractive, but it is unlikely that you will be able to get enough copies to activate it without a donation.
- Quick Reload
When Zhu Yuan activates a chain attack/super ability, the Quick Reload effect is applied. During Quick Reload, after using all of the Enhanced Buckshot, Zhu Yuan can immediately restore 6/9 of the Enhanced Buckshot by using the Quick Reload effect.

In Suppression mode, Zhu Yuan’s Interrupt Defense increases and damage taken is reduced by 10%. When Zhu Yuan hits an enemy with a reinforced buckshot, her basic attack “Do Not Resist” and dash attack “Blaze Hold” deal 10% more Ethereal Damage. This effect stacks up to 5 times and lasts for 5 seconds. Each shot adds one level of this effect. Repeated firings will reset the duration.
Zhu Yuan has a specially developed ether bullet, the Ethereal Bullet, which causes irreversible infection when it hits. That is why Zhu Yuan always warns her enemies to surrender and stop resisting before she starts shooting. She is genuinely concerned about the safety of her opponents…

When Zhu Yuan’s total of Enhanced Bucket Shots reaches 12, she gains the Etheric Inertia effect: The next time she launches an Enhanced Special Attack, the energy consumption is reduced by 30.If the Etheric Inertia effect is consumed when launching an Enhanced Special Attack, Zhu Yuan will fire 4 additional Etheric projectiles, each dealing damage equal to 220% of Zhu Yuan’s attack power.
Zhu Yuan is always worried about how much power her equipment has left, gets nervous when it’s low, and tries to conserve energy. To relieve her of these worries, the Public Security Bureau has provided her with a set of energy modules with a large capacity and long lifespan.
How to play as Zhu Yuan?
To fully understand the features of playing for Zhu Yuan, you need to wait for the character to be released and conduct more tests. The information in this section of the guide is preliminary and will be updated later.
Zhu Yuan’s core mechanics revolve around acquiring Heavy Buckshot shells and increasing the damage of her Basic Attack while in Suppressive Fire mode. You can obtain these shells in the following ways:
- Enhanced Special Attack – 3 projectiles;
- Additional attack assist – 3 projectiles;
- Chain of attacks – 3 projectiles;
- Super Ability – 3 Projectiles;
- Quick Aid – 1 shell;
- 4th and 5th hits of basic attack – 1 projectile;
- Counterattack after dodging – 1 projectile.
Try to increase Zhu Yuan’s energy recovery to use E more often, which also increases her critical hit chance by 30%, and create conditions for frequent rotation of characters on the battlefield.
When paired with Nicole, be aware of her buff to Ethereal damage after using Eshka and chain attacks. It only lasts for 3.5 seconds, so take Zhu Yuan out via quick assist to get the maximum effect.
Zhu Yuan also has a buff when attacking stunned enemies, making having Intimidation characters in your party very desirable.
How to get Zhu Yuan?
Zhu Yuan is not in the standard banner, the character will first appear in the second banner of update 1.0 (dedicated channel). The banner with Zhu Yuan is scheduled to start on July 24, it will be launched at 12:00 server time.
Who voices Zhu Yuan?
