You can now import animated stickers in WhatsApp, but you have to pay

WhatsApp launched the animated stickers last June. With them, they copied a Telegram feature, albeit with much worse performance and more limited functionality. Now, the application already allows you to import stickers from the Sticker Maker application for iOS and Android .

The Sticker Maker application already included support for generating animated stickers. All that was needed was for WhatsApp to allow them to be imported . In recent weeks they have been activating the function in some countries, and this week it will be available to everyone.

Sticker Maker is quite simple to use. We just have to install the app, create a pack of stickers, and choose the video or GIF from which we want to make an animated sticker. The app will automatically convert it to the WebP format to import it into the application. Its creator works together with WhatsApp, so that the activation is carried out by him remotely as WhatsApp allows to activate the function.

The packs that we can have must have stickers that are either all animated or all static, not being able to mix. In addition, the size that each sticker occupies will be limited, although the app will take care of offering the best compression without losing quality.

It is possible to transfer the animated stickers from Telegram to WhatsApp

Thus, WhatsApp animated stickers are more like GIFs that we can store in packs and with a lot of compression than animated stickers as such. This design philosophy is very different from that of Telegram, where the creation of stickers is much more polished, and their quality and performance is much higher.

Telegram, however, allows you to create animated or static stickers within the app itself, using a plugin of its own creation that is integrated into After Effects to export animations in .TGS format . Thanks to this, the size of the animated stickers never exceeds 64 KB , and the animations all run at 60 FPS.

But you have to pay

Luckily, the stickers in Telegram are compatible in both WebP and PNG formats, so anyone who has created stickers for Telegram can convert them to GIF or another format to enter them in Sticker Maker and integrate them into WhatsApp. To transfer stickers from Telegram to WhatsApp we can use the Sticker Downloader bot, where when sending a sticker, we will receive the version in WebP or GIF.

There is a small “but” in Sticker Maker, and that is that if you want to create animated stickers, you will have to pay 4.99 euros for the Premium version of the application. This app is the only one that allows you to create animated stickers on WhatsApp at the moment, so if you want to avoid payment you will have to wait for another one to appear.
