Tier X tank destroyers. Three words that evoke awe and respect in the soul of any player in World of Tanks . Top PTs have excellent characteristics and are truly the crowns of their branches. Moreover, most of them are also different in gameplay, and differ so much that no one will remain indifferent. Everyone will find an interesting PT-shku for themselves. Today we will talk about the once most coveted and best PT, which is now waiting in the wings and is going through hard times. Meet the Soviet Death Machine – Object 268 !

Historical reference

In the first post-war years, the absence of heavy self-propelled guns was firmly felt in the ranks of the armed forces of the USSR. The existing ISU-152 no longer met the ever-increasing requirements and was morally outdated. Therefore, it was decided to design a new heavy anti-tank self-propelled gun on the chassis of the T-10 (IS-8) tank. The new project received the index “Object 268”. The development of a prototype weapon was carried out in the design bureau of Plant No. 172. In August 1954, the technical documentation for the “Object” was ready. In March 1955, a government decree set a deadline for the development and delivery of a prototype gun for an ACS prototype, according to which at least one M-64 gun was to be ready by December. The prototype “Object 268” was built and fully ready for testing in 1956.

By the time the tests were completed, the troops of the NATO bloc had already received new models of equipment, such as the M60 and Chieftain, at their disposal. After analyzing the situation, and having weighed all the pros and cons, the command decided to curtail work on the ACS project, since its firepower was no longer sufficient to combat such progressive technology. The only built sample of the car was sent to the Museum of Armored Forces in Kubinka, where it is located to this day.

The tank was not mass-produced, it was not in service.

Armor protection. The armor of our PT is an ephemeral and random concept. Sometimes, without knowing how, you will hold back the blow from the powerful 170 mm fool “Yagdpanzer”, and sometimes the IS-3 with a stock cannon will punch you through half a map. This is the one that only scares the sparrows. That’s serious. Relying on armor in our case is a thankless task. And since when in this game do people generally rely on armor? One or two cars have it, while the rest are located in such a way that you still need to contrive to use it. Our hull is from a Tier IX tank, which imposes some restrictions and immediately tells us that there is not a lot of armor there. In terms of thickness, our situation is as follows: 187 mm from the forehead, 100 mm from the sides, 50 mm from the stern. A common thing, because we have a corps from the T-10.

The number of HP units in our PT is 1950. A decent result.

Firepower. A gun. This is exactly what all those who want to get it to their hangar as soon as possible go to the cherished “top ten”. 152 mm of Soviet fury, and their name is M-64. The best basic shell penetration in the game!Is there anything else to say? I think comments are superfluous here. It is for this that everyone loved and love “Object”. But, as in any barrel of honey, there is also a fly in the ointment here – the UGN of our PT is rather mediocre, the firing sector is very small, so every time you have to translate and turn the body, which negatively affects the spread of the gun. And besides, the speed of flight of conventional projectiles leaves much to be desired. 750 m / s, seriously? During the time until our projectile reaches the target, the crew of that very target will have time to get out of the tank and round it three times in a round dance. Then climb back in and leave. In such cases, you have to take the lead, as if you were playing artillery.

The main type of ammunition is BB with 303 mm penetration . Nobody had such a result with the basic projectile . And it is unlikely to be. What Maus are there – you can punch through two in a row. Cumulatives have 395 mm of penetration at all . This is even after the general nerf, before which it was, think about these numbers (!) 450 mm of penetration ! There are also land mines with 90 mm penetration and 1,100 alpha . They will come in handy to knock down a capture or give full damage to some “grill” that does not expect such meanness from you, and this is a separate pleasure.

The accuracy of the cannon is excellent 0.33 m per 100 m. And these are the basic indicators! Aiming time in the base – 2.7 s. Here they decided to recoup us. The reload time of the gun is 16.5 s in stock. By swinging these numbers as much as possible with the right skills and equipment, we will get: 0.3 m per 100 m accuracy, 2.25 s aiming and 13.62 s reload time, which, you see, is much better than the initial indicators.

The elevation angles are also not impressive to us: -5 ° down and 15 ° up, the total horizontal elevation angle is 12 ° – 6 ° to the left and to the right. This is because we do not have a tower, but only a wheelhouse with a cannon rigidly fixed in it.

Dynamics. By the standards of PT, everything is also not bad here. After all, the body we have is not the slowest TT in the game. The installation of an armored jacket and a heavy anti-tank gun instead of a turret had almost no effect on the vehicle’s driving performance, and this is good news. V-16FN engine with a capacity of 800 hp. accelerates our vehicle with a mass of 51.7 tons up to 48 km / h forward. The reverse speed is 15 km / h , which is also good. The specific power of the engine is 15.7 hp / t, rotation in place is 28 ° / s.

Detection. The view of the “object” after the general nerf of this indicator for the PT is 370 m. The maximum figures can be achieved only by using the “stereoscopic tube” and crew perks. But we often use lighting from allies, so think about if you really need this indicator. I do not in any way diminish its role and significance in battle, however, a lone Object 268 surrounded by it can only fire one volley, and it will still be killed.

Disguise is traditionally present for the class, and not the worst. Take with you “mask. network “or not, it’s up to you, but I wouldn’t. Still, there are much more important modules. But know that our PT is in the top 5 of the most inconspicuous, use it with caution. If you ask whether to download a disguise here, then in this case I will confidently say – yes, download!

The choice of shells. The ammunition load consists of 35 rounds, which is not that much. But believe me, even so much is enough for a protracted battle and they do not end in the middle of the battle (at least for me). It’s up to you how to distribute the shells for playing in the random house, I will only offer several options for a set of shells:

Tank tactics and tips

In most cases, the Object 268 is such a bush sniper with a powerful bully. From one click of her, half of the face flies off the TT, I am completely silent about the rest of the classes. It happens that we can pick up some LTs with a successful shot, but not co-level ones, of course. Our main credo is to distribute damage and we need to somehow live and fight with this.

As such, there are no tactics for the PT class – you just need to know certain positions on certain maps and always be in the shadows. Well, that is, so that you are not seen, but your presence is felt. After all, not death is more terrible, but its expectation, as one well-known wisdom says. It is not always useful and it is obligatory to know some places on the maps. Just follow your allies, stand behind them and cover the flank. It’s simple. The main thing here is to be able to read and use the “circles” on the minimap so that you are not highlighted. For most often the exposed PT is, if not dead, then pretty shabby.

As the allied forces advance, advance behind them and cover the rear from distant lines. Our PT does not shine with armor, like some others, although sometimes in close combat it can give a “light”, but remember that it is not worth bringing to this either. Up close, you are more vulnerable than ever, especially in front of nimble and maneuverable machines. One-skating rink, two-skating rink – and you are in the hangar.

There is another interesting way not to be left without damage at the end of the battle. It is relevant if you know where tanks collided on different maps. And since you somehow got to the X level, then you probably know. So, keep a point in mind, go to it and take a position at some distance in the bushes so that you are not visible. As soon as the active action phase begins, then you will come in handy. And no one wants to get out again where you got 750-800, believe me.

Important caveats about playing this PT – the horizontal aiming angle is very small, especially if you are leading the target “ahead” and at a great distance. You will constantly have to turn the body, thereby scattering the implement and each time converging from a larger circle. Another pain of the “object” is the low speed of the projectile. Catastrophically low speed. Only 750 m / s. Well, it’s not even funny. Hence the conclusion – you need to take the lead as if you are playing an arte or a high-explosive tank. Seriously, after any other car you sat down on the “Object” and two or three shots you will only get used to ballistics. For me personally, this is how it happens every fight. Moreover, the shells, even the BB, fly with a noticeable canopy and along an arcuate trajectory, which does not add to the comfort of the weapon. Why do we need such suffering? Let’s consider what a phenomenal breakout. Good,

In general, it is worth playing the PT carefully, thoughtfully and carefully. This class is similar to the “sniper” class in any shooter – we are just as clumsy and vulnerable when in position. But if we get there, it won’t seem a little. Avoid highlights and constrictions in open spaces. Avoid light exposure, no matter how trite it may sound. Take care of HP and do not expose yourself to enemy shots. Choose your position wisely in every fight. It is these conditions that guarantee you a long and full of “damage” life in battle.

  • hull armor leaves much to be desired;

  • terrible ballistics;

Summarizing the above, I would like to note that once our PT was the best and most desirable in every hangar. Today, only fans of the USSR research branch and people who remember its former glory are downloading it. This does not mean that PT is bad right now – by no means. You can roll it out, it is still quite playable. But one thing pleases – the developers realized that its characteristics are a little outdated, which is only the flight of a projectile lasting an eternity or the missing “corners”, and in the next few patches our valiant PT will be tightened in some parameters. If not to the previous values, then at least they will give her what she really needs. So, in the light of such news, pumping this car no longer looks rash, especially since the entire branch before it is filled with excellent equipment. Download Object 268 and have fun pumping!
