What is the Windows blue screen and how to solve crash problems

When Windows crashes and displays the blue screen, it is a sign that the operating system “shut down” to try to recover from problems related to hardware or software. This happens when the program detects an error that it cannot recover from without losing data, detects points in the system that have been corrupted or when the hardware failure is not recoverable. That is, serious case.

How to repair Windows 8 and fix errors that harm your computer

With the evolution of Windows , the blue screen of death has also changed. From the blue color of the Bic pen and countless error codes in the versions up to Windows 7 , he started to bring a sad emoticon – accompanied by the identification of the type of error – to inform that the PC was shut down in Windows 8 .

In versions 7 and 8 of the Microsoft operating system , the procedure for repair after the blue screen is similar. We have put together the solutions to guide you on what to do when the error screen appears on the PC.

According to Microsoft, it is necessary to observe whether or not it is possible to boot the system after a crash.

1) Restore the system

If possible, the first guideline is to undo changes using the system restore tool. With it you can go back to recent changes and remove files that may have caused the problem.

Remember that restoration does not affect files such as photos, documents or emails. To activate it, click on the Start button, then open the search box, type “system restore” and in the results click on this option. Then just follow the instructions. Administrator permission is required.

2) Use the action center

Another option is to use the Windows action center to check the report created by the system when software or hardware problems occur. The control panel can be accessed via the Start button. Access the Control Panel and, under System and Security, click check the status of the computer, then Maintenance. Choose the “Search for solutions to problem reports” option and click “Search for solutions”. Windows will take care of notifying you if there is a solution available for your computer problem.

3) Windows Update

The user can also check for recent updates from Microsoft through Windows Update. The tool keeps the computer up to date with the latest versions of the system drivers.

To check for updates go to Start, type “Update” in the search box and click “Windows Update”. Then click on “Check for Updates” and wait while the system searches for the latest driver versions.

When you receive the message stating that optional updates are available or asking you to review them, click the message to view and select the changes. Click on important updates for more information. Check all the updates you want to install and click “OK”. A box with the license terms will appear: accept and complete the action.

4) Check drivers

If you have installed a hardware device, you need to verify that the driver is the latest one. Go to the manufacturer’s website to locate the file for the new device. As most drivers install themselves, you only need to download the file, double-click and the installation begins.

If the downloaded driver does not install automatically, launch the device manager. Click the Start button and access the control panel. Under “System and Security”, open “Device Manager”. In the list of hardware categories, find the device to be updated and double-click on its name. On the driver tab, click update driver and follow the instructions.

5) Start Windows in safe mode

Also try to start your computer in safe mode. If the PC has only one operating system installed, press the F8 key repeatedly while the machine restarts the system. Remember to do this before the Windows logo appears. If your computer has more than one system installed, use the arrow keys to choose which operating system you want to start in safe mode and then press F8 repeatedly. On the advanced boot options screen, choose the safe mode option and press the Enter key. Log in with an account that has administrator roles.

6) Check HD and PC memory

Check your computer’s hard drive and memory, as some errors can be caused by these devices. To check the status of the hard drive, go to Start, then “Computer”. With the right mouse button click on the unit to be checked and then on Properties. Choose the tools tab, check for errors and click “Check Now”.

For automatic correction, select “Fix file system errors automatically”. For complete verification, select “Check for bad sectors and try to recover them”. Physical errors will be found and repaired in the unit. The step takes a while to complete. Be patient.

The verification of memory problems is done through the “Diagnostic Tool”. Click Start, go to the Control Panel, type memory in the search box and click “Diagnose computer memory problems”. Choose when to run the feature. If you want to do the process immediately, save any open files, close any running programs, and restart your computer. The tool will run as soon as Windows is restarted again.

More difficult alternatives

Windows 7 also offers options to roll back changes, repair files and restore the system to a previous backup when the blue screen occurs and the user is no longer able to start the program. The guidelines for system restoration and safe mode booting, discussed above, can also help in this case. In addition to these, there are three more options: repair the startup; backup of the system image or, more drastically, reinstall Windows.

7) Boot repair

The first is to use boot repair to detect and fix problems that might prevent Windows from starting. The feature starts automatically if problems are detected, but it can also be run manually. To do this, remove CDs, DVDs and restart your computer. Press F8 repeatedly while the computer restarts. Do this before the Windows logo appears.

If your computer has more than one system installed, use the arrow keys to choose which operating system you want to repair and then press F8 repeatedly. On the advanced boot options screen, choose the option to repair your computer and press the Enter key. Select a keyboard option and click next. In the system recovery options menu, click Startup Repair and follow the instructions.

8) Restore with image backup

To restore your computer using an image backup, you must have previously created the system image to use the option. Remove CDs and DVDs from the computer and restart the machine by repeatedly pressing F8. Go to the advanced boot options screen, choose Repair your computer, press enter. Select a keyboard layout, click next and go to the system recovery options menu. Click system image recovery and follow the instructions.

9) Reinstall Windows

The most drastic option if none of the above works or is available is to reinstall Windows from scratch. The new formatting can be done with a USB flash drive or software installation CD .

10) Fixes in Windows 8

Although they are different systems, the guidelines for solving problems with the blue screen in Windows 7 also apply to versions 8, 8.1 and RT 8.1. In newer versions, Microsoft advises the user to obtain the latest updates with the traditional Windows Update.

If updates are found, select the corresponding option to install. Read the license terms, accept and click finish if the update requires it. The system will notify you when the modifications are installed.

It is also possible to restore Windows 8 and its siblings to a certain point in the past in the restore point
