Windows 10 is erasing Flash Player from your PC forever

Microsoft has finally confirmed new data and details about Windows 10 21H1 , its next big update coming next spring. In addition, it has released an update that will allow us to gain some storage space and security, since it removes Adobe Flash from our computers.

Windows 10 KB4577586: goodbye to Adobe Flash Player

Microsoft has released in the last hours a somewhat strange update, since it is optional, but it is being installed automatically on all computers. The patch KB4577586 is downloaded when we give for updates, and as its description suggests, completely removes Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 .

The software stopped being operational on January 1, 2021, after Adobe announced in 2017 that it was going to stop supporting it, and where the main browsers have already removed it completely. A month and a half later, Microsoft now removes it from the operating system as well, making it even more difficult to use Adobe Flash in 2021 . Thus, even if you do nothing, the “Update to remove Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based systems (KB4577586)” will be installed automatically .

The update downloads and installs in just a couple of minutes, and then you need to restart your computer for the installation to complete. Once installed, it can no longer be uninstalled, so it is not possible to restore full Flash support . However, for compatibility reasons, Microsoft will allow the installation of third-party software. This will remove your implementation of Flash, but it will not remove that of other software that we have installed, such as the one that some alternative web browsers allow to use.

Windows 10 21H1 is official

Microsoft also made its first official announcement about 21H1 . In it, the company confirmed that this version will not involve major compatibility updates and that it will follow the same minor update policy of 20H2 . Thus, this update will be installed on May and October 2020 Update.

This is something Microsoft is not used to, as it usually releases the most important update at the beginning of the year, and then a minor update in the second half. The reason for this this year is that the company is working on Sun Valley, its new interface for the operating system, which will arrive with 21H2 for not having it ready on time.

Microsoft has not released any 21H1 builds to the Beta or Release Preview channels at the moment , since there is at least a month left before the final version begins to be tested to polish all the possible errors that appear in the Windows Insider program . Its activation will probably be done with the same mechanism as 20H2, where all the new features were introduced little by little, and on the day of launch it was only necessary to launch an activation patch with some other bug fixes, facilitating the launch and making it faster.
