The events of Thursday were the classic straw that broke the camel’s back, and the social network Twitter has decided to resort to the most drastic and decisive way towards the outgoing president of the United States.
Donald J. Trump was permanently blocked from Twitter last night . The social network has decided to resort to this decision following Trump’s repeated violations of the guidelines, especially for having repeatedly incited hatred.
The platform had already temporarily suspended the account of the outgoing president right after the events of Thursday, when the pro-Trump protesters stormed the Capitol and forced Congress to interrupt the session that was to formalize the office of Joe Biden as the new head of state.
With the account suspended, Trump has however decided to continue tweeting through another profile, Potus , the official account of the President of the United States of America. A choice that goes against Twitter’s guidelines and that did not go down to the platform managers, who finally decided to permanently block @realdonaldtrump from the social network.
For his part, Trump does not seem worried , and indeed even claims to be ready to land on a new platform created by himself, but not without launching yet another dig at Twitter and the results of the US elections:
I predicted it would happen. We are dealing with various other sites and will have a big announcement shortly. We are also looking into the possibility of our own platform in the near future. […] Twitter has no freedom of speech. They will not silence us. As I have been saying for some time, Twitter has gone far beyond banning free speech and tonight its employees coordinated with Democrats and the radical left to remove my account from their platform, to silence me, you and the 75 million. of Americans who voted for me.
