Why doesn’t my PC recognize or detect the Ethernet network cable?

Despite the facilities offered by the digital age, it can suffer failures, as is the case with Internet connections. Even your PC may have trouble recognizing the Ethernet network cable . Wired connections are often used for desktop PCs and are becoming less common with the advancement of technology. However, it comes across as a good choice for business network types.

Why won’t my PC Recognize or Detect the Ethernet Network Cable? – Solution

The advantage of having a wired connection is its stability and high performance. Although, sometimes it can fail due to physical causes or problems with the network configuration.

Why doesn’t my PC recognize or detect the Ethernet network cable? Possible causes

Damaged network cable

It is a physical failure, it is one of the most common that usually occurs. Ethernet cables are very reliable, however they can be damaged when exposed to the environment .

Inside an Ethernet cable there are four smaller twisted pairs of cables and they are usually more fragile. When they are handled improperly or exposed to the sun, they can be damaged.

RJ45 connector failures

RJ45 connectors are the most used type of connector in wired networks. Most are usually plastic , although there are some made of metal. If the connector is damaged, the connection between the devices will be almost impossible.

Network ports are not working

The network cards or the connection ports of devices such as modem or router can be physically damaged . At best it could be a port in poor condition that needs maintenance.

IP address assignment conflict error

This error occurs when there is an error in the IP address assignment by the router. The device mistakenly assigns the same IP address to two PCs and one of them cannot connect to the network, you can check the device configuration to find out.

How to solve connection problems with the Ethernet cable?

Use the Troubleshoot option

An easy way to detect the possible connection problem you have on your PC is through the Windows Troubleshoot tool . It is available for wireless networks and wired networks.

Go to the properties panel of the network adapter, access the Ethernet section and choose the option Troubleshoot network connection problems . A quick way to access it is by right-clicking on the connection icon in the taskbar and then clicking on the Troubleshoot option.

quick review of the network connection will be done and if there is any problem that it can identify it will tell you along with a possible solution. Sometimes it will not find the problem, but it will give you some indication.

 Check the wiring

Check that the cable is not broken or bent in any part. There are testers that serve to measure the continuity of an Ethernet cable, if you have the possibility, use one. Another way to detect that the fault is the cable is by changing it for another.

Check internet access

Probably the fault is not the connection, but the network does not have access to the Internet. Try to PING or measure the speed of the Internet to know if you are actually connected to the network.

Activates automatic crossover detection

Network cables are typically wired differently according to 568A and 568B standards . This type of rule is determined according to the type of device to be connected and the type of network, but in Windows you can activate an option that allows you to detect either of the two options for your PC.

Go to the properties panel of your network adapter and click on the advanced options. Then select the Automatic crossover detection property and change the value to On.

Restart the PC

It may seem like a simple option, but it may be all you need to reestablish your network connection. Restart the PC and if it is a logical problem such as the IP address assignment conflict, it will be solved immediately.
