Have you just spent the last 3 hours recording amazing gameplay in OBS Streamlabs only to find you can’t find the footage? Don’t worry, it happened to the best of us. Below you will see exactly how to find and change the storage location of your records.

Where are my OBS Streamlabs records stored?

When you install Streamlabs it will ask you where you want to store your recordings, however you probably just chose the default location and continued with the setup.

Find Streamlabs OBS entries by doing the following:

  • Open Streamlabs OBS and click on COG settings.
  • Go to the output section on the left side.
  • Scroll down to the entry and you will see the path of the entry
  • To see all your entries, copy the link path and open File Explorer.
  • In explorer, click on the top bar and paste the link we copied from streamlabs.
  • This will take you straight to the folder where all your entries are.

How do I change where recordings are stored in Streamlabs OBS?

You may want to change where your recordings are stored, especially if you want to record to an external drive like I did.

To change where your recordings are stored, follow these steps:

  • Open Streamlabs OBS and click on COG settings.
  • Click on output on the left side
  • Scroll down to Recording and click Browse.
  • This will open File Explorer allowing you to select any folder where you want to save your recordings.

I recommend keeping them in an easily accessible place and possibly using an external drive to burn the footage. I’ve been doing this for years and it keeps me from cluttering up my main drive and also allows me to take my recordings with me if I ever need to edit my recordings on the road. I’m a big fan of Lacie portable drives.

Can Streamlabs record without streaming?

Yes, you can record on Streamlabs without streaming. By clicking the “REC” button in the bottom right corner of streamlabs, you will start recording, which will be saved locally on your computer. You can also use all OBS features like switching scenes or cameras while recording.
