Buckshot Roulette gets your adrenaline pumping – it tests the player’s wits, prudence and luck. The reward for the brave is a cash reward and a life saved in a dangerous game.
The action takes place in an underground club. The protagonist decides to visit the Dealer, a creature that looks like a Kolobok who has seen life. Together they clash in a deadly game that ends in death or a cash prize.
The rules of the game are simple: you need to play “Russian roulette” with a shotgun. Live and blank cartridges are loaded into the weapon in random order. Participants take turns shooting at each other until one of them reaches zero health. Each participant is free to shoot himself: a blank cartridge allows you to shoot again out of turn, while a live cartridge takes away health and passes the turn to the enemy. Think before you shoot yourself with a shotgun – it is not always a good idea.
Active items add a special spice to the game:
- Magnifying glass: allows you to see the current cartridge in the chamber;
- Beer: Allows you to safely dispose of the current cartridge. Fun fact: the method of quickly guzzling beer is called “shotgunning” (shotgun translates as a shotgun);
- Hacksaw: Increases damage dealt to double;
- Cigarettes: restore one life;
- Suspicious pills: have an equal chance of restoring two lives or taking away one;
- Handcuffs: prevent the participant from making a move;
- Phone: A mysterious voice gives a hint on a random cartridge;
- Inverter: changes the current cartridge in the chamber to the opposite one;
- Adrenaline: Allows you to use any enemy item – except other adrenaline
Each round you need to count the number of blanks and live cartridges, relying on their ratio. If there are more blanks, it is better to shoot yourself, and if there are more live cartridges, it is better to shoot the dealer. The available items offer interesting solutions and combinations:
- If the player is sure that the next two cartridges are live, then he can use the inverter and not give the dealer a turn;
- Adrenaline is a universal tool, but handcuffing the dealer with his own handcuffs is the most enjoyable;
- You can let the dealer steal the pills – in the hope that they will harm him;
- A phone is most valuable when there are two or three cartridges;
- Sometimes it’s better to smoke cigarettes with full health, so as not to let the Dealer get treated
In a regular game, you need to bring the Dealer’s health to zero three times to win a cash prize. After that, the “Double or Nothing” mode will open. Winning it gives you the opportunity to play again, but with a doubling of the winnings, and you can continue indefinitely. The player is free to refuse at any time, or continue to try his luck.
It is especially interesting to observe the behavior of the participants. The main character trembles before the shots, and simply uses objects. After each wound, he is pumped out with a defibrillator. The dealer is completely calm, pretends to use objects (he throws away adrenaline without using it), and only recoils from shotgun shots. The game transparently hints that the Dealer is much more powerful than the player. Sometimes this creature behaves inappropriately – he uses a magnifying glass, beer, and shoots himself several times at once. At the same time, he never breaks the rules, which only adds to his charisma – and the game of fear, from the realization of who he sat down to play deadly “roulette” with.
The game exudes an atmosphere of hopelessness and dirt – from the gray walls and worn-out equipment to the monotonous club music. And the creature with a shotgun raises doubts about the safety of what is happening. However, the excitement of a dangerous game overrides the sense of self-preservation.
Diagnosis
Buckshot Roulette is a short game that can be easily played in half an hour. However, the atmosphere and excitement make you return to the room with the Dealer again and again to try your luck. The only drawback is that you have to fill out a name in the waiver at the beginning of the game. But such are the laws of the local world, and if even the Dealer follows them, who are we to refuse him?
