One day, your favorite laptop may stop turning on. There are quite a few reasons for this – we will consider them in our material and tell you how to return the device to working condition.
In most cases, the problem lies in the power supply. The laptop is discharged, the battery is damaged, etc. But we will consider all possible options:
- Power supply problems . This is a common problem, especially for those who constantly keep the device on charge. Direct connection to the network, without a “break”, accelerates battery wear. Sometimes the battery simply falls out of the slots. You need to open the cell and inspect it for connections;
- The power adapter has burned out . It is required to convert voltage into energy suitable for the laptop. If the adapter fails, it stops passing current, and the laptop stops charging;
- The cable that powers the port is broken . If this happens, carefully examine it for breaks. Replace the charger with a universal one or try connecting the cable from HP to any other laptop. If the indicator starts blinking, then the problem has been detected.
To verify or disprove that the battery is broken, you need to take it out of the cell for a quarter of an hour. After that, connect the laptop to the network. If everything works, then the reason was a burnt battery.
The coolers are working, but the screen does not light up
It also happens that the cooling system starts and functions normally, but the screen does not work. This “symptom” indicates that the video card in the HP laptop has failed. This is relevant when the sounds of the operating system being turned on are reproduced normally, without distortion. You cannot solve this problem on your own; you need to seek help from specialists.
To make sure that it is the video card that is “sick”, you can use a “donor” device. Take any monitor from a regular PC or TV and connect an external output device to the laptop via an HDMI cable. If the picture appears, then the problem has been identified correctly.
Don’t immediately assume the worst. Try turning on the monitor backlight and checking its brightness. If this doesn’t work, then the problem is definitely with the video card and professional help is required.
The laptop turns on and freezes after the splash screen
If the device turns on, but then freezes at the moment when service messages appear, then the problem lies in an error in the BIOS input/output system parameters. This can be fixed as follows:
- We turn off the device and turn it on after a couple of minutes;
- At the moment of system loading, press the “F2” or “DEL” key (depending on the HP model), this will take us to the BIOS;
- Find the item “Load BIOS Defaults”;
- Click on save settings;
- We are leaving the system.
Afterwards, you need to reboot the laptop. If this was the problem, the device will work correctly.
Another possible reason is that the hard drive has failed. This is a more serious problem, as it requires hardware repair or a complete replacement of the component. It is not difficult to determine the malfunction of the drive – you need to listen. There will be extraneous sounds (grinding, cracking, impacts).
Cannot boot from boot device
If the laptop refuses to turn on and responds to all attempts with the message “Unable to start from boot device”, then the HDD is out of order. It is difficult to determine “by eye” what kind of problem it is – software or hardware.
f there is a technical failure, the hard drive will work with a crackling sound. If there are no sounds, most likely the problem is software.
In such a situation, it is possible to establish the real cause, but it will require a lot of time and effort. To save them, reinstall the entire operating system and drivers.
Constant reboots and shutdowns
First of all, you need to check the device for overheating. To do this, download and install the AIDA 64 application, which can determine the temperature of each component. Severe overheating is determined by a simple touch of the hand. Alternatively, you can put a thermometer on the part of the case where the processor is located.
Most often, the device overheats due to excess dust inside the device. Small particles cover all important components: the cooling system, motherboard, video card, processor, etc. Due to a significant excess of the temperature limit, an emergency shutdown of the system or reboot for partial cooling occurs.
If this happens, you need to clean the laptop yourself or take it to a service center. To prevent this situation, you need to use the laptop only on a hard surface, without placing it on dusty or fleecy surfaces – a sofa, carpets, bed, etc.
Also check the battery indicator. If the charge percentage is “jumping” or the indicator is flickering, then there may be problems with the battery, leading to shutdowns or reboots due to a power failure.
After loading Windows, a “blue screen of death” appears
Among all the problems, one stands out in particular – the blue screen of death (BSoD). It appears during system boot, representing a blue screen on which all current errors in the laptop’s operation are written. After this, the device turns off or, most often, reboots. It is very difficult to intuitively understand what the problem is. This requires specific knowledge. It is better not to delay and visit a service center.
If this option is not available, or the laptop is needed urgently, you can try reinstalling Windows. This will reset all system errors. If the blue screen does not return after reinstalling the operating system, then the problem was in the software. If it continues to appear, then you need to look for the cause in the device’s hardware, and this can only be done with the help of a specialist.
