As a rule, the reason for the lack of sound on the iPhone is its banal shutdown. Let’s say, during a meeting. And later the owner of the gadget simply forgets to return the volume slider to its previous state. But there are other reasons, which we will analyze in this material.
Check the volume on your iPhone
One of the most common reasons is the volume set to minimum. To do this, you need to unlock the iPhone and press the upper volume rocker on the case. We check the action on one of the applications with audio/video playback.
Check if silent mode is enabled
Find the toggle button on the case that is responsible for the silent mode. You need it to be in the “On” position. The rocker of the button should be closer to the iPhone screen than to its top.
Check your Bluetooth connection
In some cases, you may not hear sound on your iPhone because the smartphone is paired with a Bluetooth device. Wireless speakers, headphones, home theater, HomePod or Alice – especially pay attention to whether you have connected the smartphone to such devices before.
The thing is that the iPhone remembers some Bluetooth connections with previously used devices. When you automatically turn it on, there is a scenario that the phone will automatically connect to it. Sometimes this happens automatically. In this case, you need to turn off Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- Go to “Settings”.
- Select the “Bluetooth” option.
- Deactivate the toggle switch opposite the “Bluetooth” menu.
If your iPhone was connected to one of the Bluetooth devices, at this point the smartphone will break the existing connection. After that, check the sound.
Restart your device
A forced reboot may fix the sound playback issue. To do this, you need to:
- Press and hold the top volume key and the lock key.
- Wait two seconds.
- Move the toggle switch with the power off icon to the right side of the screen.
- Wait until the smartphone turns off.
- Press and hold the lock key until you see the apple logo.
Check Do Not Disturb mode
iOS provides a special mode, when activated, you will not hear the sounds of incoming messages, notifications and calls. You can turn it off yourself.

Check the sound through the menu with ringtones and notifications
