Up to 80% of infections are transmitted through hands, so wash them immediately upon entering your room. Don’t forget to carry disinfectant spray, antibacterial wet wipes, flip-flops and plastic bags with you.
Bathroom
Lift the toilet seat, holding it with a cloth, and spray it on both sides with disinfectant spray , even if it looks clean.
Before taking a shower, pour a little shampoo on the shower floor and turn on the hot water for a minute. If you don’t have any abrasions or cuts on your feet, you probably won’t get infected. But if you have even a small wound, cover it with a bandage and put on rubber flip-flops.
It is better not to take baths in hotels at all.
There is always a biofilm on the surface of the bathtub – a virtually invisible layer of bacteria that can only be removed by vigorously scrubbing the surface with a brush and soap. It is not a fact that this was done during cleaning.
Bed
Do not sit on the bed or place your belongings on it until you are sure it is safe to do so. Remove the sheet and check the mattress for bedbugs and other insects. If you notice dried blood or insect larvae, notify the hotel staff immediately.
If there is a bedspread on the bed, put it aside and do not use it. It is unlikely to be washed after each guest. Also leave a note for the maid asking her not to make the bed during your stay.
The most dangerous places
Wipe down taps, toilet flush buttons, door handles, switches, and telephones with disinfectant wipes. Wrap TV and air conditioner remote controls in plastic bags. Wash cups and glasses with hot water and soap.
Do not touch the curtains with your hands: allergens and bacteria accumulate on them . To protect yourself from the possibility of getting infected with fungus, do not walk barefoot on the carpet and sit on sofas and armchairs only in clothes.
How to make sure the room you book is clean
We think that expensive hotels are clean and safe, but this is not always the case. In any hotel, the maids could rush or clean carelessly. So be sure to read reviews before booking a room. Rely on reviews with photos and specific comments, and not just a rating.
