What is Hormone and what is it for?

A fact that has been shown to be increasingly necessary is the understanding of our own health. In times of a pandemic, going to the doctor has become dangerous and we cannot afford to feel anything like running to the hospital. But in reality, we always need to understand a little more about our bodies so that we can take better care of ourselves.

Health is something serious that often goes unnoticed. When it comes to aesthetics, people eat healthy and exercise, but it turns out that health needs to be our priority and with these basic attitudes we have already achieved a standard of living with quality.

So knowing a little more about some bodily functions is very important. For example, the importance of sleeping well, drinking water and exercising. There is much more to it than aesthetics. Knowing a little about the functioning of your organs helps to keep them better in case of need. For this, the discipline of biology at school is fundamental, because even if it is basic, you know better about the functioning of your body and can have the minimum notion of possible diseases and symptoms. There are those who say that there are certain subjects in school that will not make a difference in their professional life, but we know that in the personal it is essential.

Another important point of our body are the hormones that help in the regulation of several cells in our body and that sometimes can have some abnormal behavior that needs to be treated constantly. Are we going to know a little more about our body?

Our body is formed by systems and within each one there are several organs that come together to make an exemplary functioning that we see throughout our days. Some details happen in a microscopic way that we don’t feel, much less see. Throughout our daily lives, we have no idea of the importance of each of these systems. We only feel our breathing and our heartbeat, so there is research that indicates meditation a lot so that you can feel your body working more in moments of silence.

The human body is organized into cells that, in groups, were tissues that together form organs and then systems and finally the organism as a whole. Our cells are undoubtedly the most important component, especially because they are microscopic and give rise to everything else. As is basic to biology, we are eukaryotic beings (with organized nucleus, separated from the rest of the cell) and multicellular.

Our body has several tissues, such as muscle, nervous, epithelial and connective tissue. Each with its primary function and providing support for the functioning of the organs. The systems that group these organs can be represented by the cardiovascular, nervous, muscular, digestive and other systems.

To be clearer, imagine some cells like osteoclasts and osteoblasts that form bone tissue, which is the main component of bones that in turn form the skeletal system.

Cells

Cells

Speaking a little more specifically about cells we know that they can have several functions. Beta cells are responsible for the production of insulin that can often cause diabetes. Or the adipocyte cells that store the famous fat. The cells responsible for blood and oxygenation in the body are red blood cells and red blood cells. Even though it is microscopic, there is a lot of value in the knowledge of cells.

Neurons are invaluable mainly because they are cells that transmit nerve impulses. There are many studies reporting on the non-replacement of the neuron, which always worries many people. For example, when you hurt and a new cone appears to cover the wound, this is a replacement of cells that the body does automatically, but with neurons it does not happen that way.

Bodies

Talking about the organs of the human body is very complex, as they represent great functionality of our body. some have very specific functions such as the bladder that only stores urine before being excreted. But others are important for the whole body like the heart that pumps oxygenated blood throughout the body.

The stomach is an organ of extreme need so that all the food you eat is digested with quality, that is, that nutrients are absorbed for the functioning of the body. Men and women have different reproductive organs, the ovaries for women and the testicles for men. Our body is composed of several essential organs, which can have their own diseases, complications and ways of acting in each body, forming the systems.

Hormones

It is not part of any of the classifications made above, but it is nonetheless essential for our survival. Hormones are produced by glands, neurons and specialized tissues and move around the body through blood, have a more prolonged action that can bring different sensations to the human body.

They are responsible for sexuality, growth and metabolism. The word hormone comes from the Greek origin which means movement or stimulus. There are more than fifty types of hormones produced in our body.

When they reach the blood they act exclusively on the target cells, that is, only on certain cells that the hormone will act in a different way. There is a specific bond that causes the recipient cell to possess a protein capable of binding to the hormone. Steroids are one of the few hormones that communicate with their receptor directly in the cytoplasm and not in the membrane like most.

There is a specific type of hormone that helps in regulating the production of other hormones, being called tropics, such as thyroidotropics and gonadotropics, acting on the thyroid and testicles / ovaries respectively.

There are some specific glands that produce hormones in addition to the endocrine. All of them are very important: Thyroid, Testicles, Ovaries, Pituitary, Parathyroid. The main hormones produced by the human body are: insulin, glucagon, adrenaline, antidiuretic and growth hormone. The last two being the most important.

Growth hormone is responsible for the development of muscle mass and the stretching of bones, being produced in the pituitary gland. The antidiuretic acts directly on the kidneys to assist in the excretion of water from the body, being essential to maintain blood pressure and regulated urine volume.
