What computer do you need for Far Cry 6 (system requirements)?

Every fall Ubisoft releases a new sandbox in different settings. The formula has become boring over the years, although in the latest releases of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, the traditional routine with towers and grinding for crafting was nevertheless diluted with more complex mechanics. And, of course, we have once again upgraded the graphics. In Far Cry 6, the jungle has become even more detailed and juicier, and the battles are even larger in scale with spectacular special effects.

In this guide, we will figure out what kind of computer you need for a new shooter in the open world from Ubisoft, as well as share tips for detailed graphics settings for not too powerful hardware.

What computer do you need for Far Cry 6 (system requirements)?

We studied the tests of the game on different hardware in different resolutions and came to the conclusion that the official system requirements are not far from the truth. But they lack recommendations for playing at 1440p and 4K – we added them based on the tests we studied.

Official minimum system requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS, low preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 (64-bit only!).
  • Processor:Intel Core i5-4460 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (4 GB) / AMD Radeon RX 460 (4 GB).
  • RAM:8 gigabytes.

Official Recommended System Requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS, High Preset):

Far Cry 6 Optimization Tips

Comparison of the minimum graphics quality with the maximum

Next, we will briefly analyze each setting and give tips on how to increase FPS in Far Cry 6.

  • “Windowed mode”. In full screen mode, your PC will allocate as many resources as possible to the game itself, without the need to maintain a desktop. Therefore, it is better to choose this particular mode.
  • “Permission”. In the resolution item, you should always set the native resolution of your display. Most often it is 1920×1080.
  • “Aspect ratio”. Today’s standard is 16: 9. It just corresponds to 1920×1080. If you have an ultra-wide monitor, then set it to 21: 9 (2560×1080 / 3840×1440, etc.). And if you are still playing on a “square” monitor, then put 4: 3 (1024×768) or 5: 4 (1280×1024).
  • “Filtering textures”. For some reason, Far Cry 6 decided to combine texture filtering with their resolution. Usually filtering itself (correcting blurred surfaces at an angle) consumes very few resources. But this game also adds a lot of video memory. If your video card has less than 6 gigabytes, then you shouldn’t install “Ultra”.
  • Shadow quality is traditionally one of the most resource-intensive parameters. Fortunately, in Far Cry 6, even minimal quality looks good. If you have a weak video card, we recommend that you install it. The picture as a whole will still be pretty pretty.
  • “Geometry of the World and Vegetation”. The second “gluttonous” graphical option in the game. It heavily loads not only the video card, but also the processor. If your system barely meets the minimum system requirements or is somewhere in the middle of the path to the recommended ones, then it is better to set the quality here not above average.
  • “Environment”. Responsible for the distance of lighting from lamps and fires, as well as the distance of drawing reflections. The recommendations for tuning are similar to the previous parameter, since the load is distributed between the processor and the video card in a similar way.
  • “Water”. Far Cry 6 won’t spend much time near the water. Therefore, so that performance at these moments does not sag, it is better to lower the quality to medium.
  • “Landscape”. Not a particularly demanding option for GeForce 900 series or newer video cards (as well as any Radeon RX series), since the detail of the landscape in the game is achieved mainly through tessellation and post-processing. However, if you have a relatively powerful but outdated graphics card (such as GTX 690 or HD 7970), then it is better to choose an average value or even low.
  • Volumetric Fog. Volumetric fog looks mediocre even at medium quality. Fortunately, this parameter is not too resource-intensive – try setting high quality. You will also have time to lower it if, when fog appears in the frame, the FPS starts to sag.
  • “HD Textures”. This parameter is only needed by owners of 4K (or even 8K) panels. If you enable it, the game will require you to download another 30 gigabytes of additional materials. This will make the textures super detailed even at close range, but will require 11 gigabytes of video memory! Thus, the vast majority of players will have to give up HD textures.
  • “Smoothing”. Anti-aliasing removes jagged “ladders” around the edges of 3D objects. This makes the picture look smoother and more natural. Far Cry 6 does not have the good old FXAA – only slightly more resource-intensive SMAA is offered as a “budget” alternative. But the latter does not blur the picture and does a good job with the “teeth”. Therefore, it is better to choose it, and not the “gluttonous” TAA.
  • “Motion blur”. Blurs the image during camera turns or in motion for the effect of speed. If you like this effect, then turn it on – it will not affect performance.
  • Camera shake. Another purely cosmetic effect, the essence of which is clear from the name. If you do not want to lose the clarity of the image during explosions, falls or driving over bumps, then turn it off.
  • “The effects of poisoning and intoxication.” Similar to the previous parameter.
  • “Vert. synchronization”. Not only does it limit the maximum FPS to the refresh rate of the screen, but it also flattens the frame time for maximum smoothness. The latter leads to a deterioration in the responsiveness of management and input lag. Therefore, it is better to use the following parameter and disable V-Sync.
  • “Limiting the frame rate.” Set here a limit of 30 FPS for a weak processor and video card (the processor is even more important), and 60 for relatively powerful ones.
  • “The scale of the field of view.” It is best to leave the standard value at 75 to avoid distortion in the standard 16: 9 aspect ratio. If you increase it, then more surrounding space will be removed into the frame, but the performance will also drop accordingly.

Shot from Far Cry 5: New Dawn, but the essence, we think, is clear

  • “Adaptive Resolution”. On a weak PC, it might be worth turning it on. The game will automatically adjust the rendering resolution, which will eliminate lags during large-scale battles.
  • Resolution Scale. Responsible for the completeness of the render resolution. Better to leave 1.0. If you lower it, then all the graphics will immediately become less clear.
