Coconut is one of the major financial crops of Bangladesh. It is a tree in which every part of the organism, at some time in the life of the body, will be used directly or indirectly. The coconut varieties that are present in our country are mainly tall varieties, relatively low in yield, the number of fruits yielding 3-5 years a year and it usually takes 3 to 5 years to yield. Therefore, the emphasis is on cultivating a new type of ‘dj whole dwarf (short), varieties of coconut, so that the yield of coconut can be cultivated early, in low places, or even under the roof. At three years the height of the coconut tree will be two to two and a half feet. With proper care of the new varieties of coconut trees, flowers will start flowing in 2.5 to 3 years. Three to four times a year, the flowers will bloom. The yield is almost three times that of our native varieties. About 20-20 coconuts will be available every year if you take proper care A tree will survive 20 to 20 years.
The smaller varieties contain relatively higher amounts of water in the Vietnamese cans. Usually all types of coconut trees can be planted in the soil. Besides, this type of tree can tolerate salinity much. Care is also easier because the tree is smaller. Meanwhile, small varieties of coconut oil have been started in different districts of the country including Barisal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Bagerhat, Khulna, Dinajpur, Kushtia, Meherpur. Besides, this type of tree has also been planted in the hilly areas of Bandarban, Rangamati district.
The small varieties coming from Vietnam are mainly cultivated to adapt to the climate of Bangladesh. These varieties are two-
Siam Blue Coconut
It is a very popular breed. It was invented in Vietnam in the 24th, by the farmer’s choice of AA seedlings. The color of the fruit is yellow, each weighing 1.5-5 kg, the amount of water in the can is 25-5 ml. The water of the dub is very sweet and the shelf life is high because this type of dub can be exported abroad. The yield of fruit per tree is 8-20 per year.
Siam Green Coconut
It is very popular for use as a dub. The color of the dubs of this variety is somewhat green, some of the size is small, each weighing 1.5-1.5 kg. This variety can be found in 20 to 3 ml drinks. The yield of fruit per tree is 8-20 per year.
Method of production
All types of soils are suitable for coconut cultivation, from sewaged soil to sandy loam soil. Generally, the plant will grow better if it is filled with organic fertilizers, filling the hole with a depth of about 1.5 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep.
Drilling and fertilizer application
After making the hole for 3-5 days in the sun with a depth of 5 meters long, it contains 5-6 kg of roasted cow dung in each hole, 2 kg of raw manure, 2 grams of neem oil, 5 grams of TSP, 5 grams, mop 1 gram, zinc sulphate 1 gram, boron. Or 3 grams of boric acid, 20, furadan or carbofuran and 5 grams of carbendazim group fungicide. To protect the seedlings from pest attacks on the ground, 1 gram of Furidan is applied to each hole. After mixing everything with the soil, the tree should be planted within 12-5 days and fill the holes. After filling, the hole should be soaked with water so that all fertilizers and other components are mixed well with the soil. Filling the bottom of the hole with a coconut sieve about 4-5 cm wide will help to circulate the air and spread the roots.
Planting seedlings in drums or in gardens
Coconut seedlings should be planted in the middle of the hole in such a way so that the base of the coconut pods are on the ground. When planting the seedlings, the soil should be well pressed downwards so that the seedlings can stand firmly.
Fertilizer and Irrigation Management
Fertilizer should be applied at the following rate every 6 months after planting the seedlings. Fertilizers should be applied at a distance of 5 cm from the base of the fodder to the bottom of the drain, 3-5 cm wide and 20 cm deep. The next time, fertilizer should be applied 3-5 cm further away from the base of the fodder. After applying fertilizer, the root of the tree should be wet with 5-20 liters of water. In the dry season, irrigation should be done regularly by mulching with straw or waste.
- Dung Dung (kg) – The first 3 years is 5 kg. 4 kg from the fourth year.
- Ashes (kg) – 1 kg per year.
- Raw fertilizer (kg) for the first three years is 5 kg. 4 kg from the fourth year.
- Bone powder / pear powder (kg) – 2 kg per year.
- Urea (village) – first year 3 grams. It will increase by 20 grams per year. From the fourth year to 120 grams.
- TSP (grams) – The first three years are 5,3,3 grams respectively. 4 grams from the fourth year.
- MOP (gram) – The first three years are 5, 6, 122 grams respectively. 4 grams from the fourth year.
- Gypsum / Mag Nesium (gram) – First year 3 grams. From the next it grows to 4 grams.
- Boron (village) – First year 3 grams. From next year it will make 4 grams.
Disease and insect control management
Bad rot / rinse the bud
In the initial stages of the disease, 1 to 5 grams of propineb per liter of water and spray the mixture with pesticide securities of the Mancozeb group for 2 days at the base of the bud after 2 days.
At the rate of 2 grams per liter of water, it should be sprayed thoroughly as a result of mixing with the anti-Mancozeb group.
Applying a modest fertilizer, however, reduces the onslaught of disease by taking timely irrigation and drainage measures. If the attack is high then the propionazole group pesticides should be sprayed 3 times a day after 3 days.
Insects can easily be extracted or die by inserting an iron cane into the infected tree. Insect pesticides of the organo phosphorus group through the syringes on the way to the hole will kill the insect.
Mite of coconut
The plants should be cleaned and sprayed by mixing propterite group Sanmectin / Vertimac / Omite with 1.5 ml in 5 liters of water. Apart from this, cut 1/3 fresh coconut roots and dip them in a bottle containing Sanmectin / Vermetek / Omite and cover it with clay, but it can effectively suppress coconut mites.
There are 8 Horticulture Centers of the Department of Agriculture Extension all over Bangladesh. Vietnamese short varieties of coconut seedlings can be found at Horticulture Centers.
