The University of Holguín is a Cuban institution belonging to Higher Education . It is an important center of higher education with more than 12,048 graduates.
History
It was created on August 10, 1973 as a University Branch of the University of Oriente , and today constitutes an important center of higher education, with more than 12,048 graduates to date, thanks to the development of education in Cuba, and the efforts of students and university professors.
Since November 1995 , due to the results achieved in teaching, postgraduate studies and scientific research, it has become a University , which has allowed it in recent years to perfect its insertion strategy with production and at the same time project its work in solving the most priority problems of the territory and the country.
Under this criterion, more than 12,048 students have left its classrooms since that date, and in the current academic year the enrollment is 2,248 students in the daytime course, 1,599 in the course for workers and 9,614 in the Municipal University Centers, and of them 31 are foreigners, from 15 countries, among which are Jamaica , Guinea , Angola , Chile , Guyana , the Dominican Republic and Vietnam .
Description
The faculty is made up of 2,253 professors, of whom 681 are full-time, 96 of whom have PhDs and 212 have Masters, which has a positive impact on the quality of the teaching provided.
Racing
The university offers 14 courses in Technical Sciences, Economics and Humanities, and teaching units in Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy for the final years; each course orients its comprehensive work on an educational approach that transcends even the university framework to establish specific lines of action with the community.
The University develops a strong movement of academic improvement activities for professionals in the area, with 4 doctorates, 19 master’s degrees and 8 lines of research, and more than 52 research projects.

Present
In September 2015, as a result of the integration process in the province of Holguín, the University of Holguín was created from the union of the until then called: Oscar Lucero Moya University of Hoguín, José de la Luz y Caballaro University of Pedagogical Sciences and the Manuel Fajardo Faculty of Physical Culture. It is made up of 4 university campuses: Oscar Lucero Moya Campus, José de la Luz y Caballero Campus, Celia Sánchez Manduley Campus and Manuel Fajardo Campus, ten Municipal University Centers and three university branches.
The University of Holguín currently has 47 courses in different study modalities, distributed in 8 faculties, which respond significantly to the perceived needs of socioeconomic development in the province and other regions of the country.
The postgraduate activity has 19 master’s degrees, 14 of which are accredited, four of which are awarded the distinction of excellence, as well as three specialties and a doctoral program, which satisfy the demand for professional development.
It also has seven Study Centers, which together with the teaching departments, carry out research that allows this center of higher education to obtain more than 70 research results annually. The Cad Cam study center of the Faculty of Engineering stands out, specializing in Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing with more than 30 years of experience.
Among its significant technological and economic contributions are research on the construction of houses and protection of light roofs based on measurements of the impact of winds associated with natural phenomena of great intensity. Closely related to the Cirah Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias are the designs made for supports (wheelchairs, canes) that benefit people suffering from neurodegenerative diseases.
