What is this – function description
As per tradition, let’s start with a definition. Discord’s TTS option is the ability to have a robot read out your text. Write a phrase, word, or full sentence and enter the appropriate command. You’re great – everything is spoken by a robotic voice.
Discord TTS messages are voiced by a robot built into the operating system or browser – so system voices may differ. Keep this in mind before using!
How to enable/disable
Let’s talk about how to voice messages in Discord! If you are interested in the possibility of turning into a robot for a few seconds, you need to use the built-in function of the messenger.
There are several ways to activate the TTS option in Discord – we will consider all available user actions in detail. Let’s get started!
There is a special command for voicing messages in Discord, you do not need to go into the settings and set certain parameters, just do the following:
- Enter the desired text in the appropriate chat field;
- Put /tts before the text;
- Remember to leave a space between the command and the next word;
- Send the outgoing message to the dialog – the voice will sound automatically.
Now let’s try to find the TTS voice bot in the settings to turn it on/off:
- Click on the user settings button – on the bottom panel next to the avatar;
- Select the “Text and Image” section on the left ;
- Find the block named “Text-to-Speech” ;
- It has only one line – the switch opposite must be moved to the active position!
So you were able to turn on the parameter. How to turn off TTS in Discord, you can guess logically – just move the toggle switch to the opposite position.
These parameters are suitable exclusively for you – you can work out the corresponding algorithm for the entire server. If you do not want to hear other people’s voices or, on the contrary, are ready to give users such an opportunity.
Let’s try to activate:
- Click on the gear on the bottom panel;
- Go to the Notifications section ;
- Find the “Text-to-speech notifications” block ;
- Check the box in the desired window – for all channels/for the current channel;
- The changes you make will be saved automatically.
Be careful with the “For all channels” button. You will hear a huge number of words!

Important to know! The two described parameters are not related to each other: if you disable TTS for yourself, you will not be able to hear other people’s voices, even if the user has activated the option.
