Tips to maintain the best performance in your printer

Although a printer is one of the most reviled peripherals by users (due to the prohibitive prices of its consumables), we can always make them perform like the first day if we follow a series of tips. Thanks to them, we will achieve that printing jobs that seem to go on forever, are carried out in a much faster and more efficient way, avoiding wasting so much time waiting for them to be finished by the machine.

Next we are going to give you that series of tricks or tips through which you will ensure that your printer not only always works at full capacity, but that it stays that way for much longer since, as a peripheral that has some wear with use, it ends up degrading over time.

Check the quality of the paper in the printer

One of the most common mistakes among users is to use a paper that is not suitable for the printer. Most of us are used to using the cheapest stationery paper. Or from the Chinese store. However, poor quality paper often has problems loading for printing. As well as it is more prone to generate jams in the drum when we print.

However, good quality paper can avoid most of the problems just mentioned. Not only this, but it will avoid much of the wear and tear on the rollers responsible for picking up the paper from your tray.

Choose the correct print quality

If we are going to print something in large quantities, for a more general use. You don’t need them to come out with the best quality from your printer. Therefore, reducing the print quality of the document will not only allow it to print faster. It will also allow us to save on toner or ink consumption, which are not exactly cheap.

On the other hand, if we are going to print few documents we need them to have a good appearance. In this case, it is worth increasing the print quality of the printer. Given that, thanks to this, we will have in our hands a document with a much better presence.

Remove old jobs from the print queue

If we send many jobs to the print queue , there is a good chance that the printer will run out of memory. In this case, the printer will start to slow down when printing. Therefore, it is best to check your print queue, lest we have the problem there. Because there are old jobs canceled or paused, which have not been completed.

Check if antivirus is interfering with the printer’s job

There are some antivirus programs that are usually very aggressive when it comes to controlling the processes that run on our PC. And while this could be seen as a good thing, it can sometimes be overkill. Therefore, if our printer is directly connected to our equipment. And if our system does not need to be connected to the Internet. Then we can deactivate the antivirus without problems while we are printing. But do not forget to activate it again, once the print job has been completed.

Update the amount of RAM on your PC

Although having more RAM in your system does not make programs run faster. It does allow more of them to be loaded into it and run simultaneously. This will prevent them from fighting each other for work. Or that they are sent to the paging file of our storage unit. That, even if this is an SSD, it will always be much slower than the RAM itself.

Update the software

Make sure the software you use to print is the latest version. The most current. And when we talk about software, we also talk about printer firmware . In this way, we will know that the printer is constantly giving the best of itself when it comes to printing.

Now, if after following these tips the printing jobs take forever, perhaps it is time to change the printer for a more modern model. At the end of the day in the current market you have very worthy printers and that have a fairly decent performance for very affordable prices (then the price of consumables is something else, of course).
