TIPS FOR CLEANING YOUR RUGS AT HOME

With the heat already installed in our lives, it is time to prepare our house for the summer and that means cleaning the carpets at home to store them for the next few months. But how to do it? During the winter, it is normal to clean them periodically with the vacuum cleaner, but now that we are going to put them away, it is essential to subject them to a more thorough cleaning process. Is it possible to dry clean the carpets?

Given its dimensions, the most common is to take the rugs to a dry cleaner on these dates. However, you should know that it is also possible to clean them at home. To do this, you just have to take into account what type of material the carpet is made of and what is the product that will leave it free of germs and dirt.

Long pile rugs

Cleaning high-pile rugs can seem very complicated, but with the following tip, your carpet will look like new. And most importantly, it will be clean and disinfected.

  1. The first thing you should do is remove it and hang it outdoors. Then, with a poker, hit it on the side of the hair so that all the dust that has accumulated throughout the winter is released.
  2. Next, dilute 50 ml of white vinegar in 250 ml of water and pour the mixture into a diffuser. Now, spray the entire surface of the carpet well and let it dry for 3 hours in the open air.

Wool rugs

If your rug is wool, the carpet cleaning procedure is very similar to the previous one.

  1. In this case, you also have to shake it vigorously to be able to extract as much dust as possible.
  2. Then, for a more thorough cleaning, use the vacuum cleaner and then a damp sponge with vinegar and warm water.
  3. And for specific stains, pour a little baking soda on the area, let it dry and wipe it with the sponge to remove any remaining dirt. Ready to save!

Natural fiber rugs

Vegetable fiber rugs are very delicate to clean, but not impossible.

  1. If you want to have a natural carpet in perfect condition, nothing better than cleaning it with water and natural soap delicately with the only help of a clean cloth and without using any type of chemical product.
  2. Afterwards, you let it take out for an hour alternating times in the sun and times in the shade.

Synthetic fiber rugs

Synthetic rugs, whether made of vinyl, polypropylene or recycled plastic, are the most common on the market.

  1. In this case, if you cannot put the carpet in the washing machine, you should do a dry cleaning and to do this, vacuum the carpet well and then dilute a cap of ammonia in 250 ml of water and spray the mixture all over the surface of the carpet and then, with a brush, rub it to remove any traces of dust and / or dirt.
  2. When you have the carpet well disinfected, leave it in the air for about 2 or 3 hours to ventilate and lose the smell of ammonia.

How to store rugs

Once you have your carpet cleaned and disinfected, it’s time to put it away until next fall. The best way to do this is to roll it up and line it with newspaper, as it absorbs moisture and prevents the appearance of mites. Place it horizontally and don’t put anything on it that could crush it. And now that you no longer have the carpet to protect the floor, you will have to be more careful with it, especially if it is wooden floors. Take note of the following tips to properly clean your laminate flooring .
