One of the most complicated parts of console and video game development is having innovative, or simply winning, ideas such as Death Stranding , Uncharted , God of War and whoever has more. Much easier, on the other hand, is to discover the great successes, trying to live with reflected light. That’s why we decided to make a top ten of the most famous plagiarisms in the PlayStation world.
The PolyStation
Among the most famous deceptions in the world we find, immediately after the Trojan horse, a gift package the size of a PlayStation One that should have contained the much sought after console but which, once opened, showed the frightening PolyStation logo. One of the world’s most famous (if not the most famous) legalized plagiarism destroyed the holidays of millions of kids. At this point, perhaps, it would have been better to have received a nice block of wood in the shape of the PlayStation 4.
The Fony
Another great classic is the Fony DualShock, sold only in the best Chinese stores, made with the same shape as the most famous controller with horns, but with the same impact resistance as a biscuit left to soak in milk for a couple of hours . Countless curses, broken sticks in seconds but still a perfect cost for the pockets of penniless young people. Unforgettable (and able to ruin many friendships) the phrase: “We are in my house, you use controller 2”.
Persian Nights: Sands of Wonder
One of the most popular sagas of all time is certainly that of Prince of Persia, made by Ubisoft, transformed into a movie by Disney and perhaps ready to return during 2020 with a new chapter . All this popularity has pushed Artifex Mundi to create one of his famous hidden object games, “freely inspired” by the adventures of the Prince, called very little imaginatively Persian Nights: Sands of Wonder .
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
We enter a decidedly particular case of plagiarism. Dragon Ball is usually a product that lends itself well to misdeeds, but this time it is one of the video games related to Akira Toriyama’s manga to be guilty of intellectual theft. The third chapter of the Budokai series, published on the legendary PlayStation 2, boasts an almost totally plagiarized soundtrack, so much so as to oblige Bandai Namco to see it completely on the occasion of the launch of the HD version of the title.
Dark SASI
What happens if you mix Dark Souls with an independent developer? Nothing good, it would be said, but apparently the Narko Games team has made a deaf ear and launched what is halfway between a tap and a parody of the much more famous title FromSoftware, one of the most appreciated works of PlayStation 3 first and then 4. Unfortunately, this masterpiece is currently only available on PC, but the hope is that it can also arrive on Sony consoles.
Honor and Duty: D-Day
Anyone, reading the name of the work of Strange Games Studios, would immediately think of the mythical Call of Duty. Nothing could be more wrong, because starting Honor and Duty you will find yourself in front of a title that would have disfigured on the dear old PlayStation 2 both for graphics and depth of play. Hard to think that some careless grandmother, seeing him on store shelves, did not give it to her grandchild, who in his hands found himself one of the worst works of PlayStation 4 for his bad luck, as we reveal in our review .
POP Station
Let’s go back to the magical world of fake consoles to go to the portable branch this time. The huge success of PlayStation Portable has in fact pushed an unknown Chinese manufacturer to create a product called, very imaginatively, POP Station. The portable device, also sold in a juicy Value Pack, contains splendid clones of noble titles including City Fighter and Soccer and boasts an attractive design with keys without indications. Cherry on the cake? The “color” screen only manages shades of blue.
The Simpsons: Road Rage
Perhaps few of you will remember the work of Radical Entertainment appeared on PlayStation 2 in November 2001. The Simpsons: Road Rage put the players in the shoes of the most famous characters created by Matt Groening, who became improvised taxi drivers for the occasion, ready for anything to earn as much money as possible by chasing the inhabitants of Springfield around. If all this does not reach you new, you are not mistaken, because the previous year SEGA published Crazy Taxi, a very similar title and owner of the basic idea. D’oh!
Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta
If you think of the new generations of PlayStation, one of the most iconic characters is definitely Nathan Drake, a fascinating explorer that Naughty Dog has made the protagonist of the successful Uncharted series . A little less successful is the version of the clay game by a Saudi developer, Semaphore, who gave us the wonderful Unearthed, which from the top of his 11/100 on Metacritic is a candidate as one of the worst plagiarisms of the century. Probably no films will be dedicated to Faris Jawad and his sister Dania …
Ion Maiden
We close with a game that managed to be denounced even by the legendary metal band of Iron Maiden . The 3D Realms team has recently seen a request for compensation of two million dollars from the British band due to Ion Maiden, an action game that without too much imagination spoils the name, logos and typical style of the Iron Maiden . Result? The game magically changed its name to Ion Fury in July 2019 and was later released with poor results on Sony consoles the following month.
