Survival tips early in the PUBG match

Useful tips for survival in PUBG from looting to shooting

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was released in Early Access in March and quickly became the most popular battle royale game: about 100 people jump out of an airplane with a parachute and land on an island with an area of 8 by 8 kilometers, search for weapons and equipment, and also fight to the death. At this time, a blue energy field narrows around the island, which inflicts damage on everyone who is inside it.

Players must move towards the safe zone on foot or by transport, getting closer and closer to the surviving opponents for the final battle. The last survivor wins.

While Battlegrounds doesn’t have the complex mechanics of Arma , there are a few things you might want to know before your boots hit the ground after landing (and you swap them out for others). Below are some of our very best survival tips to help you get started as well as the end of the round.

Press Ctrl + T as quickly as possible

The key combination Ctrl + T turns off the sound in voice chat. Do this immediately after entering the lobby, in which all the players will be thrown onto a small island, and together they will run around the area, beat each other, pick up weapons and shoot each other in the face. Usually, players spend a little less than a minute in the lobby, but take our word for it – it is better to turn off the voice chat at the very beginning, so that later you do not have to listen to shouts and various kinds of racist statements.

In a minute you will already be on the plane with everyone else. Of course, the screaming and insults will continue (this is normal), so don’t turn on voice chat even for a second. The game is already tense, and at times nervous, so you won’t need hysteria from other players.

Land as quickly as possible

Landing earlier than other players is very important, especially when flying to an area with few useful items or an area that other players are aiming for. We have a separate article on Quick Landing for even more tips on how best to start a round.

Explore the drop zones

Sometimes you may want to land in an area where there is a lot of quality equipment, but that also means a high level of competition from your opponents who have the same idea. On the other hand, you may decide to start in a more secluded and quieter place, even with a lot less gear. In any case, you need to study the various landing areas at least a little. Don’t forget to check out our article on the best loot spots!

Don’t stop moving

When you are in an open area or in the middle of a large-scale firefight, then you just need to move around. If you know where your target is, then go to it from the side.

If you loot something outdoors, then press Tab (inventory button) and start “dancing” with the WASD keys while dragging items into your backpack. If you stand in an open field for a period, then the enemy will have enough time and opportunities to shoot your helmet and head.

Use a free view

Battlegrounds is somewhat like hide and seek. You must also use your wit and your eyes to win. Hold the Alt key to move the camera regardless of your direction. This is especially useful when it is important to see the falling weight, but you need to move in a specific direction and sometimes look out for the enemy. In addition, the clear view allows you to notice the enemy in any direction, and due to the lack of movement, you will surely remain unnoticed.

You can change the shoulder over which the camera is looking

While playing in third person, you can press and hold the right mouse button to aim, and then press Q and E to change the shoulder for vision. This is very useful if you need to look out of cover in different directions or just walk carefully around corners.

Show at least a little respect for the bushes!

Taking cover in the bushes may seem like a bad idea at first, given that it won’t save you from bullets. However, thanks to the disguise that he gives to the crouched player, the bush becomes a really effective cover and a place where you can make a “pleasant” surprise to the enemy or simply hide. If you are fighting in wooded areas, then always check the bushes to be aware of your surroundings.

Understand the electrical wall of death that follows us all

The blue circle is just as dangerous as everything around in the late game, and can also tickle your nerves well, as it is he who eventually forces you into battle with the remaining survivors.

After jumping off the plane, you have about 1 minute and 50 seconds to collect your first loot before the first circle appears. Below is the schedule for all laps:

  • Lap 1: 5 minutes
  • Lap 2: 3 minutes 20 seconds
  • Lap 3:2 minutes and 30 seconds
  • Lap 4: 2 minutes
  • Circle 5: 2 minutes
  • Lap 6: 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Lap 7: 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Lap 8: 1 minute

The very first zones do minimal damage (you can use amplifying items to negate all damage). However, if the energy barrier reaches the next white circle, and you find yourself outside it, then this damage will double. The base damage gradually increases with each circle, and in the later stages it can even kill anyone in a few seconds.

What does armor do?

In the early days of the game, you probably collected a super stylish suit. Big mistake. The three armor levels have two sets of parameters: durability and damage reduction. Durability is responsible for how much damage the armor can withstand before it is completely destroyed. Damage Reduction displays the percentage by which damage is reduced until the armor is destroyed. In addition, the gear protects 100% until it is completely destroyed, meaning a level 3 helmet with a durability of 1 will still save you from a headshot with a Kar 98k.

  • Armor of the first level reduces damage by 30% and has a safety margin of 80 units on the helmet, 200 units on the body armor.
  • Armor of the second level gives 40% damage reduction and a safety factor of 150 points on the helmet, as well as 220 on the body armor.
  • Tier 3 armor provides 55% damage resistance with 230 HP on the helmet and 250 on the body armor.

It is also worth noting that the arms and legs are not equipped with armor, however you do 50% less damage when hitting there, while headshots give a damage multiplier 2.5 times more than, for example, a body shot.

Which weapon is the best?

In PUBG integral variety of pistols, rifles, shotguns and submachine guns. Especially for you, we have collected all the information on this issue in a separate article. You can view our guide here .

Look out for the red zones

You need to keep an eye on two circles on the map: the first shows the safe zone, and the second shows the blue death field. Don’t forget about the red zones, though. The red zones show you the area of the bombing, and when scanning the area for enemies or gathering equipment, it is very easy to miss the warning sign. You can also find out about this by looking at the mini-map. If you find yourself in this area, then this does not mean that you are a walking dead person, but it is better to stay away from it.

Diving, diving and diving again!

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to swim or just dive, then do not forget that while you are underwater, bullets will not harm you (although sometimes you need to float to the surface for an additional supply of air). In fact, this effect is based on the real fact that a bullet no larger than a twentieth caliber will be stopped by a layer of water 1.5 meters deep.

Don’t kill your teammates

It may sound obvious, but it can not only significantly reduce your chances of winning the current round, but also completely block your access to the game. The developers of the game have repeatedly stated that they will not tolerate the murder of associates, and have repeatedly proved this in practice by blocking the accounts of the rebels. Deliberately killing your friends can get you blocked, killing friends as a joke can get you blocked, and even killing inadequate comrades who have begun to rampage and shoot right and left can also provide you with blocking. It is better to leave ammunition for the enemy, and the administration will deal with dull players.

Move faster

When your weapon is removed (the X key by default), you can move a little faster. Ideal if you are running for cover or fleeing the blue circle.

Use amplifiers

You may have noticed that when you use boosters (pain relievers, energy and adrenaline syringes), four yellow bars appear on your health. Each of them means a certain improvement with the following effects:

  • 1 bar: you will slowly regenerate your health.
  • 2 bar: regeneration is slightly faster.
  • 3 stripes: you run a little faster.
  • 4 bar:you aim a little faster.

Boosters are also the only way to restore your health up to 100% after being injured (not including a first aid kit, which is quite rare). If you live to the late game and you still have a couple of buffs left, then it is better to use them to fill the yellow bar, even if your health is already at maximum.

Distance and distance measurement

The entire PUBG map (including water) covers an area of 8×8 km and is divided into 1×1 km squares. Scaling the map will allow you to see additional squares of 100×100 meters. You can easily use this to understand and estimate the distance to a zone, building or player.

In almost all firefights, it is not recommended to change the zeroing range scale at the sight, especially if you have not yet sufficiently targeted and have not learned the local firing system. Your best bet is to just aim just above your opponent’s head to account for the bullet drop. At the beginning of the game, this will be enough. However, this advice is worth heeding if you are not playing as a sniper. Thanks to the map, you can roughly estimate the distance between you and the enemy and change the zeroing range scale (PgUp and PgDn keys by default). If you often play in this style, then it is better to change these keys to something more comfortable and natural, for example, on the mouse wheel.

Shooting from the car

If you play alone or just find yourself in a vehicle alone, then it may seem to you that there is absolutely nothing you can do to the attacking enemy. However, by changing the place in the vehicle (Ctrl + 1, 2, 3 or 4), you can shoot a weapon even while in motion. For more effective shooting, of course, it is better to move on flat terrain, otherwise there is a risk of releasing the entire clip past.

Turn up the volume

No seriously. Put on headphones and turn the volume up as much as possible, but don’t overdo it so as not to damage your hearing! In this type of games, sound plays a very important part. Shooting a little ahead or many kilometers away from you, the sound of cars and airplanes, the steps of other players and so on – all this is incredibly important to hear. Also, don’t forget that you have a dedicated walking button, while other players constantly forget about it and make a lot of noise. Listen to the footsteps and remember that the enemy can also hear you.

Close the doors

The doors are initially closed everywhere. When entering a room, make sure you close the door behind you. You do not want to inform the whole district that you are inside the building, and this is what an open door means. Another plus in closing doors appears when you, after cleaning the building and leaving, close the door behind you. An open door indicates not only that someone is now in the building, but also that at least someone was there. Finding a ransacked building with a closed door, they will waste their precious time and will not find anything useful. On the other hand, you can leave the door open so that the enemy crawls for a couple of minutes near the building, trying to catch a non-existent enemy. In any case, wasting other players’ time is a very good idea.
