Super Smash Bros Ultimate contains all the characters that have appeared in any SuperSmash Bros, including some new ones. Nobody will complain about the absence of Pichu, Snake or Wolf: they are all there.
But, of course, they’re not unlocked from the start, as the game starts with an original eight-fighter roaster. There will be work!

The fastest way to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Play a game of Smash (also known as Versus mode) and at the end of the fight a random character will challenge you and allow you to unlock him.
There is a ten-minute in-game timer between these fights, created to reduce the rate at which characters are unlocked. But you can avoid this limit by restarting the game. When you start another Smash / Versus game, another unlockable character will appear.
You can even speed things up further by setting matches so that characters’ stamina is as low as possible (10), enough for a single hit to decide the fight, saving time for future fights.
It must be taken into account, as they explain on Reddit, that after unlocking a certain amount of characters, in addition to the waiting time of ten minutes you will have to walk a certain distance before you can find another one. To avoid this limit, you can play in the Splatoon 2 Towers and go around the map.
Following this method (playing the Smash game, unlocking the character, quitting the game and repeating) is grinding, but it’s also the fastest way to do it.
More ways to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
There are other ways to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate :
- Each time you complete the game in Classic Mode, a character will be unlocked. The positive side of this way is that each starting character of the roaster will unlock characters in a precise order, just as we can see in this official image.
- Find the character in question by playing World of Light, the adventure for one player of the game, to unlock him in all modes. Doing so will also unlock Mii fighter styles.
- As mentioned before, playing any other mode for ten minutes (of in-game time) will cause a new character to challenge you when you exit the mode.
Keep in mind that if you fail during a fight you can try again by selecting it from the main menu. It’s intermittent, so keep playing until it reappears.
What are the new Super Smash Bros Ultimate characters?
Super Smash Bros Ultimate lives up to its name when it comes to the character roaster, as it contains all those who have appeared in any chapter of the series (64, Melee, Brawl, Wii U and 3DS), who have only appeared once , as DLC, or are present in the series from the beginning.

Will there be other characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate?
Prior to the game’s launch, series director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that there would be new characters and that they would be added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate in the form of DLC.
There will be 5 new sets at a price of € 5.99 each, which will add a new fighter, scenario and several new songs (without Echo fighter).
You can also buy the Fighters Pass for € 24.99, which also offers the Rex-based Mii Swordfighter skin from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
