Steps to block programs with the Windows 11 firewall

Nowadays, security and privacy are crucial, so it is important to protect your computer from unwanted access and cyberattacks using the Windows 11 firewall. Keeping your computer safe and secure from hackers and unwanted access is crucial in today’s digital world. With so many online threats , it’s essential to take certain steps to safeguard your personal information and keep your computer free from threats .

Steps to block programs with the Windows 11 firewall

  • To get started, click the Start button and type Windows Defender Firewall in the search bar , then select the tool from the search results.
  • Once inside, look for Advanced Settings and tap on it. This feature will give you more control over your firewall rules and allow you to customize the settings to suit your needs.
  • In the Advanced Security window , select Outbound Rules in the left pane. These rules control data traffic leaving your computer for the network. Find the option and click New Rule . This will take you to a wizard that will guide you through the process of setting up the rule.
  • In the New Outbound Rule Wizard, select Program and click Next . This will allow you to select the application you want to block at the firewall.
  • Select This program path and click Browse . Locate and select the executable (.exe) file for the program or app you want to block, then click Open , then click Next . Click Block the connection and then click Next .
  • Make sure the Domain, Private, and Public boxes are checked. Click Next . Enter a descriptive name for the rule, and then click Finish .

Once you have specified all the conditions for the rule, finish the process and save your changes.

Windows Defender Firewall will now automatically block application access to the network based on rules you’ve set.
