Sony X90J Ultra HD LCD TV Review

Sony X90J TVs were announced at CES 2021, they will arrive in much of Europe in May. The Japanese brand has formalized the availability of three of the four cuts, postponing the 75″ one for the future, although without a specific date.

All models are equipped with Ultra HD LCD panels with Full LED Array backlighting and local dimming. Expected sizes are 50″, 55″, 65″ and 75″. Everyone raves about the XR Contrast Booster 5  metering system that can help put performance on par with other 2021 Sony series (X95J with XR Contrast Booster 10).

Technologies present in this Sony X90J

Image processing is entrusted to the Cognitive Processor XR , a more advanced technology equipped with artificial intelligence that already operates in the previous X1 Ultimate chips . Sony describes it as “cognitive intelligence,” a system capable of replicating human ways of hearing and seeing.

Compared to the previous generation, Cognitive Processor XR is capable of analyzing the image by dividing it into numerous areas and identifying the focal point, the one on which the viewer’s attention is focused . All the most important elements, such as color, contrast and details, are also optimized by cross-analyzing each aspect.

As for the sound, its displacement within the image is detected to coordinate the reproduction in relation to what is shown on the screen. It is also possible to apply the so-called 3D Surround Upscaling , a virtual processing that expands the participation also vertically, recreating up to 5.1.2 channels.

Connectivity includes two HDMI 2.1 inputs with support for 120Hz Ultra HD signals , auto low-latency mode, variable refresh rate (via future update), and eARC.
