So you can change the audio language on your Samsung, LG, Sony or Hisense TV

In recent years we have seen how the consumption of streaming content for movies and series has become one of the main forms of entertainment for millions of people around the world. Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, Disney Plus… the offer is already so great that many times it takes us longer to decide what we want to see than to see it.

These types of services have a lot of advantages over traditional television. The first one is the lack (except in Movistar Plus) of advertisements before and during the broadcast. The second and just as important as the previous one is that they allow us to enjoy any series or movie in the original language in which it was shot by activating the original language and subtitles. But, what happens if we are watching TV on a traditional channel with no platforms involved? Well, nothing happens, since fortunately the change of language is not something that can only be done from Netflix, HBO or Disney Plus, but it is also  possible to do it directly from our television .

Let’s see how you can put the original language (or return to Spanish) in four different brands of televisions. To be more exact, we will do it on the televisions of the Korean brands Samsung, LG, the Japanese Sony and the Chinese Hisense.

But first of all remember that if almost all models of televisions of the same brand usually have an OSD or similar configuration menu, perhaps in some cases (especially if the television is a very old model) we find ourselves with the situation that the options are in a different route or section from the one we are going to show you.

You should also bear in mind that not all channels offer broadcasts with several audio channels at the same time, depending on the broadcaster there will be more or fewer options available. Furthermore, each channel encodes the name of the languages differently. In the case that they are channels that broadcast in Spain, the main language will always be Spanish, but the  additional languages could be English, German, French, etc., or simply “original”.

Audio setup on a Samsung TV

If your television is from the popular South Korean brand, the steps to follow to change the audio language are as follows.

  • Turn on your tv
  • Access the Settings menu.
  • Within this menu, access “Sound- Broadcasting- Audio options”.
  • Finally, choose the audio language you want (and that the channel or program allows you).

Audio setup on an LG TV

In the case of LG televisions, we can choose an audio language for all channels , so that if you want to listen to all the channels that broadcast with this language in English, you can set English as the primary language and Spanish as the secondary language. And is that when you activate this option the TV is capable of automatically checking if the channel broadcasts in several languages and if among them is the one you have chosen as the main one, it will change automatically. Let’s see how you can do it:

  • Turn on your LG TV.
  • Access the Settings menu.
  • In the General section choose the Language option and here you can choose the main and secondary language you want.

Change only one channel when we are watching it

If you want to change the audio language of a specific channel at the time you are watching it, it is also possible. To do this, you can press the virtual control button on the Magic Control remote and select Audio Language. Here the television will show you the languages available for the channel you are viewing and you can directly select the one you want.

In addition to the Magic Control remote you can do this from the Settings of your television. You just have to enter the Channels section, select the Language option and access the selection screen where you can choose the language you want from the options it offers you.

Audio setup on a Sony TV

In the event that your television is Sony we have to activate an option called second audio program (SAP), also known as secondary audio programming. This gives you audio tracks both in languages other than the native language in which it was recorded in a program, as well as in this one.

To activate it you have different options. The first is that some models offer a  SAP  or  AUDIO button  on the remote control, so you just have to click on it to see the available languages and choose one.

In the event that your remote does not have this button, the SAP configuration will be in the Settings menu in  Audio  or  Subtitles . By accessing here you can change it on demand if the option is available.

Audio setup on a Hisense TV

Finally, we are going to see how we can activate this function on a television of this Chinese brand.

  • Turn on your Hisense TV.
  • Access the main menu of this.
  • Go to Language Settings.
  • In the “Audio” section that appears on the screen, select the language of the channel you want, the original or Spanish.
