Resident Evil Village fps drops freezing stutter – This guide will show you how to fix fps drop, freezing and stuttering issues on Resident Evil Village or RE8 PC.
Resident Evil Village (RE8) Performance Guide – Fix FPS Dropping, Freezing, and Stuttering
It’s obvious that Resident Evil Village is a AAA title and pretty big too. And most of the AAA games released in 2021 have not been free of bugs, bugs, and performance issues. Well, sadly Resident Evil Village suffers the same fate. In the PC version of Resident Evil Village, players face issues like lag, fps drops, random freezing, and stuttering. So I decided to list the errors and some solutions for them.
Can your PC handle Resident Evil Village?
This is the first question you should ask. Before moving further into the guide, you should take a look at the different graphics presets in Resident Evil Village and what hardware you need for them. See full system requirements.
As long as you have a GTX 1050 ti or an RX 560, it should be fine. If you have something less powerful than that then you might face some fps drops.
Are you running Resident Evil Village’s optimized GPU drivers?
Nvidia has already released a Game Ready driver for Resident Evil Village. The version is 466.27 and it was released on 04/29/2021. This new Game Ready driver provides support for the Resident Evil Village launch. You can download it through GeForce Experience or you can visit this link to download the driver manually.
AMD has also released an adrenaline controller for Resident Evil Village. It’s called Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.5.1. You can download it from here. The release notes clearly state:
Support for Resident Evil Village
-
- Up to 13% performance increase in Resident Evil Village @ 4K MAX configuration, with Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.5.1 on 16GB Radeon RX 6800XT graphics card, compared to previous edition 21.4.1 software driver .
Let’s talk about fixing FPS drops and Lag first
Adjust graphics settings
This is the first thing you should do as soon as you start the game and have access to the Settings menu. This is something I do personally and I highly recommend that all PC games do it. I know a lot of people still don’t pay attention to graphics settings in games. But trust me, they should. This is the easiest method to squeeze some extra FPS and performance out of any gaming title.
There is a good chance that there is no problem with your game. And the lag is due to the graphics settings of the game, too high. In that case, follow my guide to Resident Evil Village graphics settings. I tested the game on a GTX 1050 ti paired with a Ryzen 5 5600x.
Tweak your Nvidia or AMD control panel
It’s time to modify the Control Panel settings of your graphics cards. Nvidia users , open Nvidia Control Panel> click ” Adjust Preview Image Settings ” located on the left side under 3D Settings and make sure ” Use Advanced 3D Imaging Settings ” is selected . Now select “Manage 3D Settings” from the left bar and click on the Program Settings tab. Locate Resident Evil Village in the drop-down menu under “Select a program to customize.” For whatever reason, if you don’t see the game listed, click the Addand another list will appear, showing all “Recently Used” applications. Choose Resident Evil Village .
If you still cannot detect the game, you must add the .exe file manually. To do that, simply click Browse and head to the folder where you have installed Resident Evil Village. Select the executable file or the .exe file, which in this case should be re8.exe .
Once you have successfully added the game, you will see that the program settings are available for the game. Now modify the following settings:
- Image sharpness: Off
- Threading optimization: In
- Power management: I prefer maximum performance
- Low latency mode: Off
- Vertical sync: Off
- Texture Filtering – Quality: Performance
AMD users can also do something similar in their control panels:
- Disable Radeon Anti-Lag, Boost, Anisotropic Filtering, and Frame Rate Target Control
- Turn off image sharpening, morphological filtering, V-sync, maximum tessellation, OpenGL triple buffering, and Radeon Chill.
- Set the tessellation mode and shader cache to “AMD optimized” and the anti-aliasing mode and anti-aliasing method to “Use application settings” and “Multisampling” respectively.
- Set the texture filtering quality to “Performance” and the GPU workload to “Graphics”
- Finally, enable the Surface Format Optimization.
For Nvdia laptop users
If you are using a laptop that has a dedicated Nvidia GPU, make sure your laptop is using the dedicated GPU and not the integrated one.
To do that, simply open the Nvidia Control Panel, click on Manage 3D Settings and set ‘ Preferred Graphics Processor ‘ to ‘ Nvidia High Performance Processor ‘. Restart your system.
Now let’s talk about the methods to correct stuttering and frostbite.
Are there any resource intensive applications running in the background?
If you have heavy applications running in the background, there is a chance that these stutters will occur because some applications are resource intensive. Just open your Task Manager, select the Processes tab, and click CPU. Make sure the arrow next to you is looking down.
Doing this will bring resource-hungry apps to the top. Look for processes that you don’t need, but are consuming a large chunk of CPU. Right click on them and click “End Task”.
Windows background recording could be a reason
Turn it off by going to the “Games” settings located within the Windows Settings menu. There you should find something called “Captures” on the left. Click on it and disable the background recording feature inside.
Disable overlays, please
Disable all the overlays you have at this time. Overlays from apps like Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience, Steam, etc. have been known to cause problems in games. So disable them all.
Give them a try for now and let me know in the comment section below whether or not your issues were fixed.
