ReLife Anime Review

Hello. You know, youth is the most beautiful thing in a person’s life. Especially the time when you sit at a school desk, classmates who perceive you as a loser are nearby, and the teacher says:

-Alexander, you got 2 points on your math test again!

What am I talking about? You know, despite all the shortcomings of school, when you are bullied or just blushing trying to invite a classmate to lunch in the cafeteria – it is wonderful. It is also wonderful when you graduate from university, get a diploma, then go and get a job, get your first salary, drink alone…

Why am I talking about myself, let’s talk about anime. And here is a similar topic, where a 27-year-old guy got the opportunity to become… a high school student.

Well then, let’s get started.

Arato, you can be envied and…sympathized with*

The anime’s plot tells of a young man (or man, I don’t know which is correct) of 27 years old, who has encountered life’s difficulties. In three months, he has changed many jobs, depends on his parents’ money, has no other half, and simply, as they say, “drinks with friends at a bar.” Everything changes when, after another drinking binge, he meets Ryo on the street, who is a research assistant for the company “ReLife.”

He immediately says that Arata has become a test subject and gets a chance to take a pill that makes him young. Arata becomes a high school student the next morning and signs a contract where he will have to spend a year in the body of a teenager, at the end of which he will be able to get a job at the company. However, he will have to meet various people who will change his life.

What can I say about the plot? It’s not bad, or even great. If you watch it as an adult, not as a schoolboy, you start to think. Come on, you already understood it: I felt myself in the main character.

Unfortunately, I can’t take a pill and return to school life. But what about Arata? At first, he resists, thinking that: I’m an adult, and you’re kids here. True, over time, he worries about some classmates, enjoys communicating with some girls and much more. In fact, for him, this experiment is not only payment for his expenses and work, but also a chance to change his life.

And what about the rest? And here is where the “dog” is hidden, because in fact half of those around him are company employees, and another girl is also a test subject. And the most interesting thing begins when one girl pretends to be an unapproachable excellent student, and the other is in love with her classmate. Well, Arata is generally trying to figure out what to do next.

The main message of the plot is this: if you are given a chance to change your life – do not screw it up. After all, you can take a pill and live a year as a high school student, or you can take a pill, analyze your mistakes, and try to become a different person. Although, as the experiment showed, there are certain nuances here.

I won’t say anything else. I’ll advise you to watch the anime, there are 13 episodes, so it won’t be long.

Still, I think it’s worth talking about the spectacle, there’s something interesting here.

*Dialogues are not about school, but about life, choice, and other things that interest adults*

The good thing is that they don’t show school here like: aaaa n grabbed my boobs! No, this is real high school

-Girls compete for the title of “class president”

-The boys take running and throwing balls in physical education.

-In the canteen there are interest groups, and there are “loners”

-Girls are jealous of certain guys

-There are tests, but if you don’t pass them, you have to retake them until you turn blue.

-And much more

In fact, the spectacle is built on moments like these.

Well, and ending with really important moments. For example: how to make friends with a girl, how to spend a weekend, how to pass exams and not get a bad grade. In fact, the entertainment is built on the fact that here you have a little laughter, and then drama, philosophy, and the understanding that this is not a harem or isekai. This is an anime in which an adult becomes a teenager, and must make an important choice for himself in a year.

Moreover, Arata, although a loser by the standards of his peers, has life experience that helps him find the right words for his classmates. Plus, combining this with the fact that he has a “curator” assigned to him, who repeats his work every year.

Well, and also the spectacle is the characters, about whom I will also try to tell in detail

*Rena Kariya I feel sorry for you*

Why her? Out of all the characters (except the main character), she really tried to be a real schoolgirl. Not to play her role, but to get angry when they pass her by in sports or other things, and so on. And yet we need to talk about at least 4 main characters

Arata Kaizaki

Before getting into the  ReLife project  , he was a 27-year-old unemployed person who was constantly looking for some kind of “entertainment” for himself. Sometimes drinking at a bar with friends, where he lies about his job, sometimes watching TV in the evenings. However, as a high school student, he again experiences those same moments from his past. He fails tests in subjects, is weak in physical education, but is quite skilled in communicating with girls. At least his advice helps Chizuru and Rena solve their problems. Not a bad character, for sure.

Chizuru Hishiro

No spoilers, right? Hmm, okay. Uncommunicative, insecure, poorly versed in social matters, but a very diligent and sweet girl. At first, it seems like she would be a great waifu, but when you find out the truth about her, in the end… Well, you know, she’s the pillar of this anime: inability to hold a conversation, often straightforward questions, this really makes you smile. True, not the way she smiles, but still, let’s move on.

Rena Cariou

She was the one I liked the most in the title. As Rene already said, she is one of those who loves to fight for their dreams. As a result of certain events, she lost her silver hairpin (this is the thing that the class president wears), and also could not become the best in volleyball. However, the girl is always trying, and is a great friend. At first, she thought that Hishiro was mocking her, but she was able to make friends and understand the “recluse”. She is in love with Kazuomi Oga.

A guy who is ready to sit after school and teach his classmates a lesson. In fact, he is a positive character: never sad, friendly, and tries to make sure that his classmates do not fail the test. Still, he is also the class monitor, what can I say. In love with Rena, but hides his feelings.

An Onoya

This creature, the girl with the pigtails, is a manipulator of the kind you’d have to look for. At first, you treat her as “a simple girl looking for friends.”

However, with each episode it becomes clear that she is not so simple. She likes to flirt with Arato, but she does it not for the sake of a quickie, but to laugh at his reaction, and to annoy Chizuru. And so in her soul she is more age-appropriate than she looks. Oh, I got carried away. Although it is worth giving credit: in the end she did the right thing with Chizuru.

*Opening and voiceover*

The characters are really good. But what’s also good, in my opinion, is the opening.

ReLife  is a great anime that I watched in one day and I don’t regret it. I recommend that others check it out too.
