History
It was founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, 22-year-old students at the University of Virginia, with the intention of having a place where you can find everything that is new or interesting.
From then until now it has evolved and, in a similar way to other social networks, it has developed characteristics similar to those of a real community, where you can learn and share. In fact, it is recognized as one of the most important starting points for the dissemination of viral content on the Web.
It is useful both for individuals and to promote a business or publicize a brand, in a similar way to what is done in Digg or StumbleUpon (especially in relation to brand exposure).
From the 18 as June as 2008 , is free software . With the exception of the anti-spam parts, all the code written for Reddit is freely available on Github .
Functioning
Its true attraction is constituted by the “votes” of users, who can express their agreement or disagreement with the published content. And when a certain number of negative reviews accumulate, the link will disappear from the home page.
The Reddit team defines it as a platform in which communities are generated, since the different debate or chat sections in turn constitute small groups or “subreddits” that are governed by a dynamic and by rules different from those of the others, which are created by the “redditor” who will moderate the spaces in the future.
